According to that article, the Shivering Isles uses the metric system. :P


In my book, units of weight and measure are not-so-fun extras that you incorporate in your fantasy world if you are incredibly scrupulous about credulity and immersion, but are usually of negligible importance or value.

Just like the texts are "translated" into American English; the units are likewise converted into something that can be understood. The weight unit in-game is completely arbitrary and factors in cumbersomeness as well as weight.

Indeed and for good measure I'll add that Encumbrance is a gameplay factor, though it approximates a quarter pound fairly well.
