best gear for the Caravan Guards?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:45 pm

using the console or reverse pickpocketing what armor and weapon will be the best for the caravan. I will only replace the guards armor, the merchants will have repair boosting items :)

Note: This does not belong in the cheats section because it is not about cheats, it is simply about the best gear for the caravan guards.

Well, Combat armor seems plentiful and cheap enough. It should have more armor without sacrificing any movement. I don't know if you are buying your armor or using the computer to put generate it somehow. Reverse pickpocketing sounds neat. I just assumed they would hold onto the items instead of use them.

if it's better than what they have on they use it.

I gave Crazy Wolfgang and his Security Guard almost maxed Combat Armour each... and whilst meandering through the wastes I saw a flying Brahmin. When I scoped in to have a gander I saw a Deathclaw lacing into it. Shot the Deathclaw and went to collect the claw... and lo... there was Crazy and his guard sprawled out dead, lying next to the Deathclaw I killed, with the pack Brahmin lying a few feet away too.

I got the armour I gave them back though, with interest. So it's not all bad news. ^_^

I give them all 100% Combat Armor, Chinese Assault Rifles, and stimpaks. When I have it, I upgrade everyone to Power Armor and then Hellfire Armor and I stay far far away from the caravan routes. I only trade with them in front of Megaton and I never visit CC or Arefu (too dangerous for them).

I give them Tesla Armor or Hellfire Armor, as they both protect well and have bonuses (EW and fire resist respectively).

As for weapons, I give'm Gatlin Lasers, as they are strong and have plentiful ammo before they need to reload, thus giving them a slight edge.

i give them tesla armor, sometimes combat armor, but i make sure they eventually get good weapons, after i finshed mothership zeta i gave all 4 of the caravan guards a fully repaired alien pulverizer rifle with about 250 ammo each, if you havne't done MZ just give em chinese assault rifles or plasma or laser rifles all fully repaired with a few hundred rounds of ammo. a gatling laser would work pretty good also or maybe an incinerator.

well small guns seem to work better for all of them. I will give the Guards Combat Armor +Chinese Assault Rifle+500 rounds each. And the Merchants will receive RobCo Jumpsuits and Magnums with 250 rounds.

They will both receive Bandannas and Sunglasses, just cause they look cool.

I prefer their original gear. I'm not very creative. They're fine until you get to a high level anyway. Have you ever tried playing a low level character through the whole game? Download a mod to slow down the level up speed or something? It's a different experience that's still entertaining.

It's usually a progressive thing for me, as I acquire armor/weapons. 1st raider armor/helmets. Then I move up to combat armor and CAR. Then power armor/lasers.

Also, stimpacks, jet/buffout/psycho, etc...

Why are you upgrading the Caravan Guards wouldn't that make it harder to kill them and loot the Caravan? :whistling:

In keeping with the whole, unorganized, scatterbrain apocalyptic setting, I don't like to see too many people wearing the same thing. As a matter of fact if I could help it nobody outside of certain factions like Talon Co., the BoS etc. would have the same outfit. I mean cmon what are the odds of it in a situation like that?

So I gave the guards and vendors all different stuff for the most part. Lucky and Doc hoff both got full health Outcast power armor, Wolfgang got full health regular power armor, Crow got full health combat armor. Their guards I gave a mixture of things including leather armor, metal armor, metal helmets, combat helmets, etc.

Also gave them different weapons based on vendor stats and stuff. For instance Doc Hoff has melee weapons as a tag skill so I gave him a shishkebab. Wolfgang likes to get killed by odd scorpions and yao guai so I gave him a fully loaded chinese assault rifle.

I probably spend a lot more time doing this sorta stuff than I should but what can I say? Reverse pickpocketing is one of my big vices

I don't know if you guys know this but as long as you give the guards and vendors at least one round of ammo, they can fire their weapon indefinitely. I would advise against giving any of them melee weapons though because that would make them charge at powerful enemies, making it really easy for them to get killed. The caravan guards are really proficient with big guns so i gave them minguns/ gatling lasers and vendors are usually pretty good with small weapons or energy weapons.
