The Tyler Brothers

Hey guys, I’m a new RPer (in fact, I don't even know what RP stands for can someone tell me)... This is my first try. Be totally honest if you think it svcks.

Two klicks east of Freeside, Mojave Wasteland
March 13, 2245

Shawn and Cole Tyler are taking cover behind two low, jagged rocks, almost lying down on their stomachs to keep themselves protected. They rest their shoulders against their rocks to keep from going completely prone. The hot desert sun beats down on their backs. Bullets whiz past, kicking up the Nevada dust around them. One sparks against the rock Cole is behind. He flinches, and a beam of sweat runs down his bald head, onto his face, which may have been handsome at one time but is now full of scars from previous fights. With every shot that comes close by he clutches his sweaty hands tighter onto his brush gun. Shawn, even paler than Cole, tries to fire around the side of his rock with his 9mm SMG, none of the shots coming even close to the enemies. He is not the “fighter,” or the “brawn,” the one who did the “real business.” No, he was the smooth-talking, wisecracking, lady-killing deal maker. In fact, the only real thing he was good at in combat was quick draw, which was an invaluable thing his brother taught him. It had saved his life so many times. Now, his light-grey suit, sunglasses, and brown faux-hawk hair are all dirtied by sand. He flinches at the sound of a roaring voice.

“You will pay for what you did to Papa Khan!” a giant of a man in armored leather screams as he begins to walk dramatically through the middle of Khan raider crowd, making them seem puny in comparison. His dark muscles and veins bulge as he fires a gatling laser.

"And how the FU(K did they get a hold of that?" Shawn screams over the continuous stream of laser fire.

“Not important right now. What is important they’ve got a huge tactical advantage over us and we’ve gotta get out in one piece.” Cole replies, trying to sound calm and cool.

“You know what would have been more important? Maybe you not pissing off the Khans like this in the first place!”

“You’ve got to stop dwelling the past, brother.”

“A bit hard when the past is up our ass, trying to kill us with heavy weapons.”

Cole ignores him. “We need to retreat out of this cover, it’s too sh!tty,” a bullet and streaks of lasers fly by inches from his head, as if to prove his point. “G-laser’s a great weapon, but he’ll chew up all his ammo before long. If we retreat we can keep the fire on us and drain their cells. We’ll go slinky-motion. I run first.”

Shawn loads a fresh clip into the submachine gun and pulls the bolt, hearing the familiar chick-chick sound. "You know, getting shot at isn't normally part of my plans..." He waits for the sound of a motor dying down, and hears it after a few seconds.

“Go! Go! Go!” Shawn’s voice cracks on the third “go” from his sand-parched throat. Nevertheless, he raises the gun and sprays at the five Khan raiders. They have trail carbines, cowboy repeaters, a 10mm SMG, a laser pistol, and of course, the dreaded gattler.

At the stream of automatic fire, the Khans scuttle for cover, dust kicking around their feet. Cole makes a break for the somewhat larger rock behind him.
“Safe!” he calls, now going into his own spree with the brush gun. He fires six shots, slips it onto his back, and unholsters two .357 magnum revolvers from his belt, both with long-barrels and HD cylinders. He unleashes more powerful bullets at the enemy. One raider standing near the middle slips out of cover, just in time to be shot in the leg. A cry of pain escapes his lungs before he falls down, a blood pool quickly forming, dark red seeping into the ground.

Shawn has been running back, struggling to insert the clip while running. Even the gun is dusty now, giving it a worn-out look, even though it is in almost pristine condition. In this way, the duo continue to retreat. Cole hits a Khan with two torso shots, effectively taking him down. In one of Shawn’s wild sprays, he scores a lucky headshot on another.

“Running low on ammo!” he reports just a few moments afterwards.

“Keep running!”

Cole takes more shots with his revolvers, muzzle flashes and smoke rising from the barrels. Shawn runs, but instead of reaching the next cover point, he is nailed in the chest by a repeater. He falls down, flaring up dust around him. Cole immediately rushes over, grabbing him by the collar and desperately running backwards.

“Fu(k you!” Shawn yells as he begins to fire his 9mm pistol wildly, SMG clutched in his left hand. The clip empties, drops to the ground, and the chamber pulls back. Still running under heavy fire, with yellow streaks whizzing by and hurting his ears, he hears the revving of a motor, the last thing he needed to hear. He throws his body over his brother’s, expecting white-hot spots to be burned into his back. The first few shots are off, but as lasers start to hit Cole’s bounty hunter duster, the fire suddenly dies down. The Khan is out of ammo. Ignoring the pain, Cole continues to drag his brother’s body uphill, finally finding a decently large rock and taking the high ground. He makes sure that Shawn is completely out of harm’s way, noticing the red stain dripping down this suit. He begins to load his rifle.

“I’ve got something special for you pricks...” he mutters to himself. “.45-70 Government SWC Hand Loads. It costs me about ten caps to make every one of these, and I’m gonna make sure I make every cap worth it.”

Using a flatter side of the rock as a rest, he lines up a careful shot. He puts two bullets in one raider, and then empties the rest into the laser-wielder, who was now charging at him with his bare fists. Blood was definitely leaking from various wounds, but the enraged giant didn’t show any signs of stopping. Cole saw that behind were empty syringes and inhalers. Between the time he had run out of ammo and Cole was dragging Shawn, the j4ck4ss had injected himself with about every drug in the Mojave. He was hopped up on Psycho, Jet, Med-X, and Buffout all at the same time. Cole turned to his trusty revolver, deciding that a fatal headshot would be needed to drop the goon.

As he lined up his shot, the monster of a man continued to converge. He was only twenty feet away now. Cole lined up the shot right over his forehead. No need to rush, but no need to stall either... he pulled the trigger.

Click.

“Sh!t.” was all that escaped his lips. Instinctively, Cole reached for his trusty combat knife, and lunged from the top of the rock. He landed with his feet on the man’s chest, and they both grunted as they lost their balance and fell onto one another.

If you want chapter two, all you gotta do is ask.

Hey guys, I’m a new player RPer (in fact, I don't even know what RP stands for can someone tell me)... This is my first try. Be totally honest if you think it svcks. Oh, yea, and we start with a narrator intro because I can’t find any other way to describe the physical appearance of our characters, and it’s just unnatural for some dude to start talking about what they look like.

First off,

Welcome!

Rp stands for Role Play. Which is a type of game based soley around imagination where you and a group of friends create a story together. Look at some of the example, Manhattan War, Greyditch, that's an RP.

If your telling the story, and only you, and it's based off a univerese not completely of your own (like being based of Fallout) then it's a fanfic. So this is actually a fanfic. Which is just a story based on a pre made universe.

Well technically the whole thing is being narrated, but I won't be that anol :)

Let's get to the story itself, the most important part.

1.) Space it out. It may seem silly but it's really hard to read when you have a block of text. Separate the dialogue with spaces in between and similarly separate the paragraphs with spaces.

"Hello," he said.

The cantaloupe did not speak for it could not speak.

"Hello," he repeated.

Look at that spacing! That's the kind of spacing you want!

2.) Detail! Once you space it out will be able to see it better, but my guess is that you don't have enough description. But will see.

3.) Thoughts/Monologue. What makes you get attached to a character in a book? Definitely not their appearance, perhaps their actions or emotions? Inner thought is a great way to show the reader the characters emotion and will help us develop an attachment for them so be sure to add that to your story.

Other than those couple things, Good Job. I'm not feeling my top so maybe next time you make a chapter I'll have something a little more informative until then hopefully someone else comments. Either way, keep it up.

Either way, keep it up.

...Just didn't wanna quote the whole thing. Thanks a bunch for all the input. I've edited the formatting, which was a lot better in the original document, but when I copied + pasted kind of came out a bit freaky. Like you, I don't feel my best at 11 at night so I'm going to revamp the content sometime in the future.

Good job, I must say. It takes a brave man to walk into a fanfiction section and immediately commit themselves to seeing a fanfic through to the end. I've seen it happen before, and I must say the results so far have been less than satisfactory. You, however, seem to have gotten the hang of it.

Welcome to the forum, hope to be seeing more of you around in the RPs. If you want to learn more on how to get started, then click this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/893712-so-you-think-you-can-rp/ to get a cut-and-dry guideline on what to do and what not to do. I also have my own little guide which you can read that details things on your Character Sheet (referred to as the "CS"), which will get you started on how to sign up for one of the RPs around here.

Once again, welcome!

The Character Sheet Bible

By: Jesus Christ, Morgan Freeman, An Inferior Being

So, you think you can make a Character sheet. Well. DO YA?!

I'm here to enlighten you eager RPers on the DOs and DON'Ts of making a Character Sheet; since your first grade teacher probably didn't. So, here we go. Warning: The Character Sheet Bible has been known to induce trolling, flaming, and tenderness or swelling of the eyeballs and wrists. We do not condone the use of the Character Sheet Bible with anyone nursing, pregnant, or may become pregnant. Please read responsibly.

Here is a typical example of a character sheet, with explanations on what you should/should not put:

Spoiler
Name: Any old name will do. But please, your mother didn't name you "The Killer" or "Bloodstorm" or basically any other generic name you'd find on your favorite RPG gaming site. Even screwed up serial killers have normal names.

Age: Any age will do. Of course, the Fallout universe allows for Ghouls to have an extended life period, but anything above 300 is really unrealistic. When posting for a character that has an extended lifetime, one should also put the age of what the character appears to be.

Gender: You have a 50/50 chance at being a boy or a girl, and neither is wrong. Keep in mind, however, that if you are playing as the opposite six, don't be disrespectful. Don't be that guy who makes an 18 year old hottie who uses six as an ice-breaker, it’s actually very immature and disrespectful. And before you even THINK about going there, you aren’t at liberty to be making people of questionable genders.

Race: Race includes your ethnic background, like Caucasian, African American, Asian, etc. This may also include your character's place of birth.

Appearance: Your appearance is what your character will look like (excluding clothing). This section should be very detailed; as it's unlikely your character will meet Pinkerton during the RP. Details should include things like eye color, hair color, height, weight, physical build, facial structure, etc. However, not every single one of your characters has to be rippling with muscle and looking like a Greek God. Fact is, it signals to other people you're making a desperate attempt at attracting the opposite six into your king-sized bed.

Clothing/Armor: Clothing is pretty generic, and can actually change throughout the course of the RP, so feel free to step into something new at any time... Just not in front of people, kay? In the Fallout world, you could be generic and list something that appears in-game, or you can personalize your style by describing what exactly your character is wearing. Now, here's where things get controversial. Unless you are a character in the employment of a very wealthy military organization, your character should be wearing leather padding and knee pads at best. Not every Wastelander sports a fresh new suit of T-51b power armor (though I hear it's all the rage in some newb fashion circles).

Weapons: As much as people enjoy the fact you like playing Call of Duty and Modern Warfare, this isn't the place where you begin to list your favorite newb-mower with its tricked out array of red dots and under barrel spam shooters. In fact, most of the weapons you were thinking about putting down in your arsenal don't even exist in Fallout. So, say good-bye to your M16A4s, and your TAR-21s, and your SPAS-12s, and your Mini-Uzi because they don't even exist in Fallout. Of course, this isn't to say you only have to use Fallout weapons, being creative is encouraged. Oh, and try to avoid the magnum revolver you inherited from your dad with the words "Die Legion Scum" engraved on the side, it's a cliché.

Furthermore (yes, this section takes two paragraphs), those who are moral enough to avoid the Modern Age weaponry, should also avoid multiple weapons. As much as you love your assault rifle, it's a heavy companion, including the ammunition. Those with an assault rifle should have nothing more than that if they plan on making long distance trips, and those packing a minigun are just plain stupid. Also, be mindful that holding a very valuable weapon makes you a target in the Fallout world, so less is more. Also, after a heated battle, please be mindful of your amount of ammunition, especially if you're using an automatic weapon. Lots of people assume that their rifles come with an extended magazine to China, but in reality, bullets go by quickly, and scavenging for more is not really an option. So, like the clothing rule, your weapon can change from time to time as well.

Evenfurthermore (THREE paragraphs, do you see the importance?), modding your weapon is completely acceptable, and doesn't necessarily make your weapon overpowered. In-game weapon modifications apply here, and so do ones that you think up on your own. Just don't spawn a modification that turns your 9mm into a fully automatic sniper rifle.

Occupation: You don't really see this one too often, but I thought it beneficial that I waste your time with more rambling anyways. The occupation of your character is essentially what they do for a living. You know. Their job? Again, make sure this section fits in with the rest of your character sheet. Let's not have a character who preaches in Rivet City but is also a nymphomaniac, alright? And let's try to avoid the Special Operations Grand Poo-bah Uber General.

Skills: Like yourself, your character has talents that makes them unique. Skills can be useful, like being a handy repairman, or a good survivalist. Skills can also be totally useless and miscellaneous, like the ability to sing at high octaves or pack away an ungodly amount of whiskey. However, this is another chance where people will want to try and strut their stuff by making their character the best shot in the entire world. Please, marksmanship is alright, but don't expect to be able to run through a hail of bullets and pump three rounds into every enemy’s skull without missing a shot. Another cliché to watch out for is "SuperDuperSpecOpsTraining", or as I like to call it, "stupid". Being a Special Operations operative has become about as common in some RPs as the amount of booze in the New Vegas Strip.

Strengths: At some points, the Skills can be replaced with the Strength category, meaning both categories pretty much share the same guidelines. For emphasis, you shouldn't go overboard with how many strong points your character may have.

Weaknesses: This section. The one right here. This one. It separates the men from the boys. If you're a man, this section will be much longer than your strength or skill section. If you're a boy, then your biggest weakness is puberty. This section should be (again) longer than your strengths, and should identify at least two weaknesses that hinder your character's abilities or mental faculties. If your character has an arch enemy, this enemy should be able to read this and say to himself "Good golly gosh, I now know at least two ways to gain an advantage". These weaknesses don't necessarily have to be physical handicaps, they can include mental tics and other oddities that may hinder the character, or might put them in a bad situation.

Personality/Mental Bio: Since these two sections are essentially one in the same, I combined them. Mostly because I'm lazy, but that's not the point. Your character's personality is rather simple to understand, but harder to apply. A common mistake people have when making their character's personality is that they write a certain personality in the character sheet, but when they start writing the character's personality changes. It happens to the best of writers, mainly when their own personal personality conflicts with their character’s. If you need to, start off with characters that match your own personality to make it easier on yourself when you're RPing. There's only one stipulation in this section, and that's for people who want to try and pull off the anti-social silent types. In theory, being a Boone is a fantastic idea, but being Boone gets really boring. Fast. Especially when someone's talking to you and the most you can say is "Yeah, sure." Quite frankly, you basically become a non-factor in the RP.

Bio: Basically, this is your history for your character. This section should sum up what you're character's been doing in the world since he/she first popped into the bright shiny light and chose what they were going to look like. You really can't go wrong here, but make sure your character stays true to what they'd really be doing, and be sure to mention important life-changing events that may have led them into the current situation or attributed to any of your character's assets. This section can be any length, and doesn't have to be an entire history; you can just throw in the important bits. Personally, I enjoy killing other people's time by writing novels for my character bios, while others do it in a paragraph and still manage to fulfill the requirements.
