Now for dummies: ...

Read his post more closely, that was not what he said.

I'm surprised the seven lairs of Hell and what Hell means to each individual havn't been debated

It was a kind of pun on dumbing down. Moonshadow is beautyfull and stuff, its the Dunmeri heaven and its in Oblivion aka what the Imperial pigs enjoys to call Hell.
Azura is evil in what she do not tell you, i guess she is TES Aes Sedai. I guess her realm is really not that bad, but you pay a price for going there(you lose some of your sight while being there), so there is the bad part about Moonshadow.

I Agree, Sheograth does seem to be "bipolar" which is what the lands seem to be, unbelievably happy, and unreasonably gloomy. The reason the land reflects his personality in such a black and white manner is because he is bipolar, because he is the lord of insanity, and bipolarism, is a mental illness, that has been known to drive people insane and be called insane for the illness.

Actually, it has always somewhat disturbed me how Bethesda unthinkingly threw rather serious topics such as depression and suicide into the realm of 'madness' as if they are ideas that can only originate in a diseased mind.

Now that you mention it, I had thought about that before myself. As you said though, I'm sure it was unwittingly.

I agree on the point but I won't let personal experience and modern psychology influences my suspension too much. It ought to take a backseat next to the other elements of realism, like physics.

Agreed.

The Joker would make a good Sheogorath, mixed with some Keyser Soze and he'd be great. Actually, I think a bipolar Sheo is a tad bit lame, but certainly fun.

There's the void, which is nothingness. And there's the Aurbis, which is everything that exists. Within the Aurbis is Oblivion, a reflection of the Void. Oblivion is kinda like the Void, except that it exists so it's not completely void. Withing Oblivion are different realms, one for each Daedric Prince, and other, smaller realms. And there's Nirn.

From a nirnocentric point of view, you have Nirn, surrounded by Oblivion, surrounded by Aetherius, and this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matryoshka_doll-like whole is the Aurbis.

The stars (including the Sun) are holes in Oblivion which let Aetherius' light fall directly to Nirn. This light is not just light, it's also magic, and what allows the world to continue to exist.

Even the realms of Oblivion need Aetherius' light, or they disappear. Oblivion is aptly named, the void-like part of it would devour anything and make it lost and forgotten forever. So you have to continually sustain stuff with the essence of Aetherius.

Phallic symbols are the best ways of channeling Aetherius' energy, which is why you've got all these towers. Egg-like symbols are the best way of shaping and controlling said channeled energy, which is why you've got things like the Sigil Stones. This symbolism is perfectly deliberate, by the way.

On that note: this world needs more hallucinogen-induced, metaphysically based smut. I'm thinking White Gold Tower x MUATRA slash fiction.
