Vehicles in future Fallout games or DLCs?

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 2:36 am

I know I can't be the only one. Who wouldn't want to add a new dynamic to a series of post apocalyptic survival games? I suggest maybe adding in drivable vehicles. Nothing to make the game to easy like planes. Just some ground vehicles like cars, motorcycles, and suvs. Each could start as a hollowed out shell and required parts for building an repairing. Also maybe a constant search for a fuel source such as gasoline, alcohol, or electricity. They could also include the aspect of a mobile storage, with a capacity limit (i.e. saddle bags, trunk, hatch back etc.), with the possible risk of theft. I would like to hear feedback about additions and possible drawbacks to this concept. Maybe expense, copyright laws, or complexity of programming and processing power requirements. I want a glimmer of hope for this possibility. Suggestions?

For NV or FO3? No.
The gameworld is too funky and small for them to be worth being input.

For future games?
Sure, if done right.

Thats a great idea and sense you have to build it your self there wouldn't be a lot of cars all over and when say a brige has collepsed then youd have to find a way around

Possible in future Fallout games, like FO4. It seems like Bethesda is adding mounts to Skyrim, I can see vehicles in Fallout 4 then.

Instead of packing a lot of locations and detail into one little map, Bethesda should create gigantic maps with real-life distances. A big open wasteland instead of a full of ruins and buildings location like DC or Vegas, traveling wouldn't be boring as we can use cars to travel to our destinations. Fill the highways with some occasional gas stations, little settlements, they could even add some procedural randomization to create some places to explore. If done well, it would be pretty interesting.

For some reason now i think fallout will become a US war in Afghan and Iraq replay if they add vehicles........

Raiders have a Missile launchers and MGs in a ruined town
NCR trooper in a humvee like truck: "RPGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG"
Humvee blows up

Funny as h*ll,but a b*tch to get out of.

I think horses or rideable bramhim would be great. I'm not sure about cars or tanks, that may be too much.

Better idea, a faction called "The Riders of the Storm", they drive off-road customized motorcycles and ATVs and are experts in mounted combat, they are a nomadic raider faction that sweeps the land like a swarm of locusts, their main base is a HUGE vehicle like the Base Crawler.

I am pro-bicycles in Fallout. They are a vehicle that you don't need a lot of technology or resources for. no fuel necessary.

Well, I would like to see Vehicles, do not get me wrong, they had the Highwayman in FO2, but after 200 years, i think it would be difficult to impractical to have any land vehicles with the conditions of the roads, the amount of wreaks, and the lack of fuel for vehicles, as the fuel would rather be used for weapons. Air Vehicles would be more useful personally, or some sort of mass transit, like getting train travel going again would be more practical before getting automobiles going again.

The bicycle should be Fallout's version of the horse. They should definitely consider adding it to the game. Sometimes walking is way too tedious and slow to get around, yet a car would be too fast. Bicycles are a good compromise.

That's what I'm talking about!

Dunno about the crawler as a base though... unless you mean http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/1/1b/Sandcrawler.jpg, then awlriiight!

I can see bicycles as a good option as well. Hopefully they'll make an appearance in the next game.

Of course, that means we'll then be able to ride around on those little tricycles that were strewn about the wasteland!

I don't know, bicycles may seem "realistic" for the technology restrictions, but it would be a major immersion breaker seeing your character in full Power Armor, carrying a missile launcher on his back, peddling a Schwinn. At least motorcycles or ATVs could have the theory that heavier items are stashed in saddlebag-type side compartments, and in the style of FO2 they could be powered by Energy Cells or Microfusion Cells... maybe even get another use for all those Fission Batteries lying around.

Only if they make the map big enough to warrant a car, make it useful by ditching the current fast travel (and tie it to the car), if they don't overdo it (overkill GTA effect, mowing down everything on path, gun turrets, lots of cars in different flavors and the ability overly pimp them, etc), if they don't make it too durable and fuel too common.

I can see what you're saying, but there are a lot of aspects of the game that aren't necessarily immersion-heavy in the first place. Being able to carry around a ton of stuff(my characters are always either packrats or kleptomaniacs) is not too realistic either. I think it would just be fun. It certainly wouldn't have to be a required method of travel or anything. Or perhaps there could be a weight limit to be able to ride a bike? No Power Armor-wearing bicyclists allowed. :)

I like the train idea but i like cars powerd by fission batters and there could be gas stations that sell fission batters. The map would hzve to be the size of a state to work but that just means MORE EASTER EGGS!!!!!!!!!!
