Fallout mobile

Was thinking this the other day. Wouldn't it be cool to have an SD style fallout game or a digital copy so you could play the game on iphone or any smartphone then transfer the saves via a micro SD card?

Was a quiet day so mind starts to wander...lol :foodndrink:

Not sure how well a "full size" game ports to a Phone/DS type of device. There was/is a Mobile TES game that was kind of popular, but the image on the screen was just too small at least on the phone that I tried it on to be a fun game to play. Maybe on a larger iPhone it would be better.

I think games should be designed from the get go for a mobile platform rather than adapt a "full size" game. It's not graphics, but real estate, get things too crowded on the screen, it becomes hard to play.

Does Bethesda own those rights to sell Fallout 2?
I'd think it possible to write a special directX wrapper with custom mouse support, and some trick for playing the cutscenes.
They could even hire certain known FO2 modders to alter the UI (slightly) and tinker with other aspects of the game.

~But are they allowed?

If they can do that... then why not contract out for a Dx9 spin-off for the PC that uses FO2 as a base, and adds FO:Tactics combat improvements? (both modes too :verymad: )
Put it on Xboxlive and Steam even.

I really don't like playing games with really involved user interfaces on phones. I have a Galaxy S phone, which is REALLY good for playing games (one of the best...even more powerful graphically than iPhone 4), but I rarely play games on it. Controls don't transfer well to a touchscreen interface. Now, if they made a port for Fallout 2 as Gizmo mentioned that would probably work pretty well. I probably wouldn't play a first-person Fallout game on my phone, though.

What kind of Fallout?

I could see Fallout 1 and 2 working, but even then they are pretty extensive in terms of memory. Fallout 2 alone is like 1(1/2) a gigabyte.

I see no way in hell that 3 or NV would work.

Given that they bought the rights from interplay and are actually loning the rights to an online game to interplay, leads me to believe that yes, they can sell it.

And GOG.com has the fallout games for dirt cheap, and no DRM

I post this topic before......

Anyways, they can always make a FO2 like system with NV story.

I only ever use old cast away phones, so for what's it worth for others.

I'd say if there was money in it, then it would have been done already.
The markets opening up now, and many own phones capable of running games at least of Tactics + in specs.
Maybe if a company offers to lease the rights, and gives a vast percentage of the profits we may see it.
Otherwise not.

I'd rather not.

I don't like exclusive deals.
It means people who don't have that hardware can't get it.
I have a crappy ass phone which I'm fine with for calling and texting.
Not going to get a brand new phone just so I can enjoy a Fallout game.
At the same time I want to play it for lore so badly.
If released on a phone it should be released on Steam, XBLA, and PSNetwork too.
Otherwise, no.

You mean storage (as opposed to memory)? Most smartphones nowadays have a lot of storage. If you could find a way to compress the game assets (images, etc.) down a little, which would be fine for a smaller screen, it should be fine. Fallout 2 should easily run on current-gen smartphones...both in terms of memory and storage.

I see no way in hell that 3 or NV would work.

Agreed. Even if they scaled it back to run on a smartphone I'd never play a first-person game with such an involved UI on a phone touchscreen.
