Changing registry?

So while adding a few more mods and creating a new merged patch it occurred to me: I have FO3 installed in the C:/program files/etc/etc... After having read that the administrator issues with this install location cause LOADS of crashes, I thought I'd look into moving FO3 someplace else...

I'd prefer not to have to do a clean install, and found that you can change the install location in the registry. I read a bit about it:

Yes, to keep everything, you'd just make a copy of your current fallout 3 folder, then overwrite everything after you uninstall/reinstall. For your saves, I assume it'll ask if you want to keep or delete them. You can backup the save directory to be sure if you want:

My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\Saves

Or an easier way imo is to just change the install directory in the registry, if you're okay with going in there. Run... > 'regedit', then navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAMACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Bethesda Softworks/Fallout3/

Then on the right panel, right click the 'Installed Path' key > modify... > change the Value data your current fallout 3 main directory is at.

*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Bethesda Softworks/Fallout3/

...The only difference is in the above case the user was running it with Vista. I'm wondering if the process would be different running it in Windows 7?

If it is majorly different, could someone outline how/if this would be possible in 7 at all?

Thanks for the insight. :)
