[WIP] Fresh Faces II

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:31 pm

These faces are amazing. I can't wait to see them get released.

On the other hand, the clothes in the game are going to look ridiculous next to these.

Thanks for the great work!

Astonishing, Illy, simply superb :)
It's difficult choosing a favourite face, but Dunmer, Altmer, Imperials and Nord are incredibly realist.

What program(s) is Illy using to make these faces? I want to learn how to do this stuff too.

Thank you - well in the mod they were originally designed for the NPC's are normally wearing high res clothing as well - but yes using vanilla clothing or armour textures can be a bit contrasting - however that is the case if you are using other high res texture replacers as well - fortunately Darknut and Keazen both released sharper textures for armour, better clothes and standard robes - which works well for me

Thank you Zimnel - I enjoyed making the Imperial women and the Dunmer men the most

PM'd you - it is the GIMP - although any program that allows you work with layers will do such a paint.net or photoshop. I also use a graphics tablet for blending - the mouse is way too cumbersome.

There are a number of good youtube tutorials on how to add faces to people using photo manipulation software - my first faces looked like smeary butter but figured that once I had done fifty I would have the hang of it :)

Really? When you first started out, your faces looked like crap?
But are you naturally an artist though? Because some folks just have a talent for stuff like this.

Yes they looked awful here's http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6/istface02dx5.jpg

I am not an artist - Westly and Plangkye are artists - they understand shading and tones that make me weep in frustration that I cannot replicate them

No I am more of the sort of person who doesn't believe in talent just in practice making perfect - it is my belief that if you try something enough times you will begin to at least look like you know what you are doing - I view myself more as a digital seamstress - stitching together parts of photos, adjusting lighting, colours and contrasts to achieve the looks I want.

You can do great faces if you want to do - you just have to want to do them bad enough in order to endure doing some not so good ones first.

You can't hit home runs if you're afraid of striking out :)

That looks pretty good actually. I don't see how you think that is awful. But Westly and Plangkye use the same programs you use, yes?

Update to some Vamps

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/1157/wefv.png - just trying something different

Ihttp://img251.imageshack.us/img251/6029/imfv.png

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/5971/nofv.png - tried to make her tattoo look freshly cut

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/8475/brfv.png - will likely change her

Am going back over some faces and retouching them - some older models are being discarded - there's probably a dozen or so I need to redo - and then just finish off selecting hairs - I can't believe how long this has been sitting on my harddrive so will be pleased to finally get a release this year.

It will be a pluginless replacer making it easier to swap out faces that maybe don't appeal

Interesting take on the Bosmer. Definitely should have the large jet black pupils, but I'm thinking the red and blue magik aura should be less pronounced so it appears to be coming from deeper in the eye like it's originating from the fathoms of her ancient mind.

That tattoo definitely looks fresh cut - very menacing face!

And is that Breton face based on Shirley Manson of Garbage?

Thank you tetchy

I'm just playing around with the Bosmer - my Bosmer are asian based - however i always loved the big black eyes as well - so for a vamp i thought I'd go for that - the inner colour is pronounced in the pic as it is glow mapped - I may try mapping a smaller amount - unfortunately i have never been able to tone down glows they always seem to be on high beam when i just want park lights

Anyway the breton is based on an english actress/singer Hannah Spearitt - who I really enjoyed watching in the series Primeval well the first 2 seasons anyway - I've accentuated makeup and wrinkles so she looks older than she really is

Was dabbling with a more http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/4213/brfv2.png for my breton vamp as I figure they get into plenty of fights in the dark and are bound to collect the odd black eye
