Key to Mania/Dementia

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:17 am

I have a bunch of crap stuck in my inventory. A BUNCH. I can't get rid of it.

I did however realize that getting arrested takes this stuff out of my inventory and doesn't give it back. The only two items of concern I have are the key to Mania and the key to Dementia. I've killed the Gatekeeper and I've unlocked both doors. If I go to jail, they'll take these keys from me. Do I need them to complete any quests now that the gates are unlocked or am I safe to get my butt arrested and get these things out of my way?

I guess the doors should be open after that, no need to walk around with the keys and even then, you probably won't need to go through the door as you can fast travel. I don't recall having to use them for anyhting after unlocking the door, so I'd say it's safe. Only one way to find out though.

Is there any stage or circumstance under which they're supposed to be taken back out of my inventory as the result of a quest completion?

Never mind. Apparently even if you try to get the keys and other quest items taken this way, they re-appear in your inventory shortly after you escape from prison.

Just made me think and laugh. The main gate in Chorrol has about 100 Keys strewn about the statue. You don't need them again. Once i use a Key I just drop them by the statue next time I am in Chorrol

That's hilarious. Would love to see that... As for me, I just stick the unwanted keys in a dresser or desk back at one of my houses, so I don't have them on me, but they're available if I need them. But I don't know if the Mania/Dementia keys are needed once the Gates of Madness have been unlocked. I would assume the answer is no, because if I remember correctly, they say that anyone can get through the Gates, now that the Gatekeeper is dead... But I can't be certain.

little tip...

once you kill the gatekeeper you only need to pick up one of the keys to open both doors.

obviously the door will have to be which key you pick, but afterward you are free to use both doors.

my gatekeeper has lay dead for a while now, still with the key to mania on him.

depends on which free spell you want.
