Karma Questions

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:31 am

I was wondering how you do some kinds of karma for the neutral and bad karma trophies.

I get good karma. Be nice and don't steal.

For bad karma a friend said destroy Megaton and you will never be good again. Be mean.

That sounds easy enough.

But neutral karma I am not sure what to do.

Do you do ask for money for things but do good things? Be bad then be good?

Can you do it by asking for money for things but doing good things?

Being money happy but nice?

Being mercenary?

Pretty much your a mercenary doing things that benefit you the most.

e.g Megaton

Blowing it up makes you evil and fulfills your role of bringing even more death to the wasteland

Fixing the bomb for nothing benefits your role of trying to help the wasteland recover

Fixing the bomb for 500 caps makes you neutral, you may have helped some people out but it was because you were looking out for yourself

Neutral for me is a lot trickier to maintain than good or evil. For neutral I had to find a balance between stealing and doing good quests. if I were getting too evil then I could give some water to people in need of it, or donate to the church. If your looking too good then just steal some stuff. As for neutral karma beign awarded based on the actions you take I'm not sure.

The dialogue options you mention sounds sensible & logical (ie asking for money seems right for a neutral approach). For example when I get good or bad karma a message pops up in the corner to tell me, with neutral I don't get a message pop up but that probably means I have got neutral karma becasue it isn't good or bad karma...... therefore no karma might = neutral karma?

My characters always start out intentionally good or evil, but by about level 15, they become neutral, go figure. I don't check it or anything, it just naturally goes that way. For example:
I might find someone out in the wastes to be a perfect candidate for a slave. So I enslave them. But I also might use the money from that sale to purchase the freedom of a different slave... And it starts balancing like that. I don't necessarily choose only neutral options in speech... I say what I feel like saying right then.
Another example would be having to choose between two paths on a quest, good or evil. Siding with one, getting rewards for that, then turning around and betraying them at the end.
If you want to micro-regulate it, you can always donate caps or scrap metal for good karma, every time you do something bad. But that ruins immersion for me.

Thank you. :)

Neutral karma sounds boring to maintain. :(

I will do it once for the trophies then be good or evil after.

(Yea, i do the neutral or evil for the achievements, then i just do what i feel is right for the rest of the time, and for me, it usually falls on being very good.)

I am veering towards good so far.

Though some things test the be good thing.

Once I get the karma trophies done I will do what I feel like. I will probabely be good.

(yes, of all the Karma Goodies and Followers, I was more impressed with Neutral and Good myself, IMHO, not to say that the Evil ones were bad, i just was not as impressed.)

Just doing the quests seems to give you lots of good karma, plus there's other easy ways to get good karma, like giving away water or scrap metal. In order to balance this I think you'd need to take the canabal perk and feed off dead people just to stay neutral. But then, what IS the benifit of being neutral? Not getting jumped by regulators or talon co mercs? I don't see this as a good thing because;
1) it adds a little excitment
2) merc loot is great!

(PS @ Paladin John, just noticed everything you write's in brakets ha!) :D

Neutral sounds boring.

Being ambushed by Talon Mercenaries can add to your loot, lol.

I think I will just do the main quests and as few of the otherr quests as possible when doing neutral.

It sounds boring and annoying.

One reason for being neutral (at least at the start): RL-3!

This robot is a really entertaining companion, and has a really large vocabulary, and never fails to make me laugh!
