Cinematic View - How do you turn it off?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:40 pm

I cannot find an option to turn this crap off. In New Vegas the option doesn't work, but I can't even find it for FO3. The stupid thing either kills me or almost kills me all the time. During the slo mo scene the other baddies either close with my character or shoot him while he just stands there. I hate it. I'm playing the PC version of FO3.

In V.A.T.s mode during the cinematic part your character takes little to no damage.

Well to avoid it don't use V.A.T.S. I'm sure there is a mod as you are on PC.

In Fallout New Vegas they add the slow mo stuff to every kill unless you change the option, makes me jump sometimes when boone gets a kill when I'm not aware there is even an enemy.

Not true. My character frequently goes from 100% health to 50% health, and then gets killed because of it. I am sick of my character being in slo mo and the enemy still goes at top speed. Most often it is melee types who close in from medium range to HTH range.

The option in Vegas doesn't work for me - as I originally wrote. Not using VATS is not an option - and that wasn't the question.

The player character receives only 10% of normal damage in V.A.T.S.

And from the same line, some weapons can still instantly kill you. It doesn't change the fact that my character is getting wiped out or seriously injured during Cinematic Scenes. You also get them when you are not in VATS. So again, the problem is not being able to turn off the Cinematic crap.

Something like http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2764 may help.

What you are experiencing isn't usual vanilla behavior. You say you play on the PC, are you playing with mods that change gameplay? Also, I'm assuming what you are describing as "cinematic scenes" is VATS? This is different that what is going on in NV.

Also, as a side note, you absolutely can turn off the Cinematic Scenes in New Vegas. It's done, IIRC, in one of the options menus. I play on the PC. It isn't faulty. I turned it off right away because my companions kept getting kills and it put my character into the slo-mo cinematic camera and it was driving me crazy.

The only mods I'm playing with on my PC are the DLC of the Game of the Year addition. I plan on playing Zombie Apocalypse, but haven't yet. Most of the time it happens in VATS - get a kill and the slo-mo begins, but only for my character and the kill; everyone else continues real time. Sometimes I get it when I get a kill outside of VATS - mostly from grenades.

I play FO New Vegas on the PS3. I've gone to the options and turned off the cinematics, but it doesn't work (apparently a PS3 glitch). I've been told to put it into the personal view option. I'll try that when my stuff arrives - just moved back to the states.

That is odd, because that's nothing like how vats is supposed to work.

Yea, in VATs you should only take 10% damage. You also mention that you get the cinematic view when not using VATs, which I've never ever heard of. It shouldn't do that and I can't even imagine what would make it do that.

My mind = Boggled.

Did you have any mods installed previously?

The only mod I have is Zombie Apocalypse and it isn't active. It is available, but I haven't turned it on. I will soon use the Better Caravans mod. I'll chalk it up to a glitch. Hopefully the Faster VATS mod will work.

There are a couple VATS options you may want to consider, since they all take the approach a little different:

There is http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1650 as you mentioned, which will speed things up in general in VATS.

Otherwise, there is http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14611 which will remove all but the first person cam stuff from VATS.

I'm sure there are others, too, but that just gives you an idea of the different ways you might be able to manipulate the VATS system, though I would be a little worried about that glitch still to some degree as I don't know if a mod will correct it (since that is VERY weird behavior for the system).

This sounds like a glitch I had once on 360. After shooting at an enemy in VATS, I stayed stuck motionless in the VATS cinematic while I watched my companions run around me fighting the other enemies. I waited a couple minutes but stayed stuck and ended up having to reload my save. I don't think that has ever happened to me on PC and it definitely should not be happening on a regular basis.

Oh, the PS3. What is it with the PS3 and the Fallout games?

This is so weird! Sounds a bit like what happens after your character dies...except that your character isn't dead yet and you are taking damage. You could try reinstalling your game to see if it gets rid of it.

Sounds like a personal problem..... Just kidding... Kinda. But anyway, it sounds like some sort of bug. Personally, I've never had a problem like that in either game. Actually, I lied. Do you have the Mystery Stranger perk? That's the only time it's ever happened to me, and that was only once when I was on the brink of death anyway.
