So I have an idea

It's a star wars game, very original in design (at least, original for a SW game). I have been slowly developing it in my head over the past few months over my disappointment with TOR. Not that I don't think it will be fun and a great game, but it doesn't have the original KoTOR feel to it. The graphics, story, and settings kinda ruin it for me. Thus I am not thinking of it in any relation to KoTOR at all.

Anyways, my design is written out completely. I even have what buttons do what (I am primarily a console player so I mapped it based on a controller for the moment). It has new design approaches to star wars and yada yada yada. Don't need to go into details. I will say this though, us all being lovers of the ES series, this game would go over well with you.

My question: is there any way I could pitch this idea to a studio and have them genuinely contemplate it? I know next to nothing about programming. All of my ideas are strictly on a design mentality. And there is tons of wiggle room for a development team to do with what they want. I am sure there are tons of us out there that have games designed in our heads and how we would do things if given the chance. Does anyone know how I might be able to get that chance even though I am not in game design at all? I am actually about to graduate with a BA in psych and am going to continue on to graduate school so yeah.

Honestly, it seems like a long shot.

Since this isn't an original IP you'd probably have to pitch it to LucasArts, although perhaps Bioware would also be an option.

Game design of this nature is a lot of fun but it's also the sort of thing that's fun for game designers as well. So even if you could get to someone who'd give it real consideration you may find that they're uninterested as they'd rather do this part themselves. However it can't hurt to send it in to someone, the worst that can happen is they'll say they don't review outside ideas.

would your idea still make sense if you remove all the star wars elements?

Yes. The only one that was strictly Star Wars was I had an idea how to redesign the way the Force works in games. But everything can be moved to another setting

So do I just email Lucasarts then or what?

I mean this in the best way possible, but you should just google it. There are a lot of good resources out there for this type of thing, and if I could remember the names of some of the things I've read on the subject I'd give them to you. This isn't the type of thing people on a forum like this are going to know, it's what guides that have been written by individuals and can be found via google are for.

Edit: And no I don't suggest emailing it to them. If you really want to pitch this chances are you'll have to see them in person and present it to them like the serious proposition it is.

What! You mean you could imagine a story and how gameplay could work? I can't believe it, what a unique talent you have.

Do you have a storyboard and a proposal well laid and written out already? You should include why they should adopt your design rather than theirs and possibly figures to support your design. How your design could affect the community or the game environment and what results they should expect.
