Unmarked Settlement of Ghouls

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:46 pm

Hey. In the Northwest part of the map I was exploring with a level 8 character and Amy Wong. I came across a power junction that enabled a ham radio. Further North was a wasteland settler in a single shack surrounded by mines. Further North was an enclosed area with Talon Mercenaries, and to the West of it was a road leading to the top of a large hill where supermutants were hanging out. Around that area I accidently shot and killed a friendly human wastelander who was firing at young deathclaw near me. And to the North of that was a settlement of tin shacks with wasteland settlers. They showed up as red and initiated hostile behavior, so Amy Wong and I wiped them out. Upon inspecting their corpses I saw that they were all ghouls.

My question is this: Did I accidently cause all settlers to become unfriendly with me? Or are these ghoul settlers intended to be hostile to me?

Maybe you did a quest that made them not like you? I have only had Fallout 3 for a bit. So I may not be right.

Did you do any quests that had you killing ghouls, like the Tenpenny Tower one, or the one involving Mister Crowley? Did you kill anyone in Underworld?

Maybe a decision in a quest you did offended them.

Or they are just hostile ghouls.

I'm not saying I'm a ghoul lover, but I had never killed a ghoul until encountering that unmarked settlement. Tenpenny Tower and Underworld have not been discovered yet and I've never met a Mr. Crowley.

I'm out of ammo now and I have no choice but to run to a nearby settlement just to see if they are all hostile to me. My karma stat shows a halo around fallout boy's head. Upstanding citizen, I believe.

No, the ghouls in that settlement (can't remember it's name) are always hostile.

You can't remember the name of the settlement because it doesn't have a name. All the shacks are named 'Abandoned Shack.' The ghouls that live there like to call it "...."I've lived in "..." all my life! There is no place better than "..." I love to represent "..." by shooting anyone that comes near. Anyway, I've looked at other topics and it seems that "..." is just there to be there with no quest attached to it.

Amy Wong is the best companion ever. She will visit all the settlements to sell your loot, buy you supplies, and bring everything back to you.

"while typing out a report" While i was out on a long range patrol once, I did come across a Village of Ghouls north of a waste disposal sight with my squad, rather than shoot them, we investigated. Big mistake on my part as these Ghouls were using small caliber weapons to fight people off, we backed off and let them alone, and marked the village on our charts. The Brotherhood normally would have shot them on sight, but i did not know that village was inhabited, and did not have orders to engage in a firefight, only to scout and to use my best judgment in situations, And who knew how many ghouls were there? Turns out from later reports, not too many, my Elder commended me on my using caution than acting irrationally and going in guns blazing due to our low numbers at the time when i told the story about the village. Now i got to get back to this report.....

( I hit this village twice, and both times i wiped it out, but i was mauled by at least nearby spawned mobs of Yao guai once, it really was bad.)

I know the place. Yes they always appear to be hostile. And I feel bad about that sometimes. Here are these ghouls who apparently are just trying to survive. But in self defense I have to kill them, unless I avoid the place. And on top of that, they are very weak and poorly armed.

Your name is Savlian Mathias. I have something to say about that guy. During the fight in the courtyard his greaves broke. After the battle his greaves were off and I could see his undies. He stayed that way the entire game.

My theory as to why they're hostile is that they simply don't trust humans and want their settlement to be a secret from slavers and raiders, so they kill any smoothskin who comes near them trying to protect their village. It's like those primative villages in countries like Africa and South America where the tribals are completely untrusting of outsiders and kill anyone who tries to enter their settlements that isn't one of them.

Reading this made me try and find this place, since I must have completely missed it before. I can't believe I'm still finding new things....

Anyway, when I got there they were indeed all hostile. There were around five of them. I would have preferred to have left them alone, but they attacked first. :nope:
