What will you do when you first get Skyrim?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:12 am

I'm just going to let the game progress naturally. If the threat is imminent and the MQ is pushed, I'm going to do that first. If my character gets a little downtime, then I'm going to to a little independent adventuring, or join a faction.

Edit* Not sure if this falls under the "little of this, little of that" category, or "Start the Main Quest and beat it first".

Yeah, I know they want the main quest to feel compelling, especially since people complain about weak stories in TES, but like to ease my way into it without feeling like the world is waiting for me.

I’ll get to it; let me have some “me” time.

Why isn't crack open a bottle of champagne an option? :celebration:

I'll probably do the tutorial or whatever,

Then i will pick a distant landmark, and walk to it. And i will keep doing this for a while. Fighting and looting any baddies I'll come across.

With exotic caves and ruins, a wilderness waiting to be explored, and colorful characters with unforeseen quests, I look forward to being torn about what to do next.

I'll do a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I'll start by some minor dungeon diving to get some money for basic gear or to just get some basic gear directly from the dungeons, I will read and collect any books I may happen to come across (forming a personal collection is something I do in Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion), I will just go around looking at things and admiring them, just because it's an entirely new place and the graphics will be nice, I will look around at the various factions and possibly join one or two (if there's an Arena faction, I'm joining as soon as possible, but others may have to wait a bit), I will probably check out the beginning of the main quest early, I will do side quests for people and see how Skyrim's randomly-generated quests work, I will try some of those mundane tasks Skyrim will introduce (crafting, woodcutting, cooking, etc.), I will talk to people, and I will do this all simultaneously... after reading the manual and staring at the map and/or whatever may come with my collector's edition.

I'm going to look at the case for 10 min to an hour, then open it up and install game. Then I will look over the manual, begin the game, and start out by doing a little bit of this, and a little bit of that.

Put the box on the shrine in my closet, pray to the nine that I don't die of hunger in the next 3 months, then put the DVD in the tray.

I'll insert disc into cup holder tray disc drive, eat read the manual as it installs, and probably spend hours days creating different characters and tweaking their appearances.

And then, if I manage to find my way out of the character creation process, I will do a little of this, a little of that, as my characters' individual needs, fancies, or whims dictate.

Explore. And RP.
Hell, I haven't finished the Oblivion, KOTN or SI MQs yet. I'll take all of that slowly in Skyrim, again.

I suppose it depends on the atmosphere. In Morrowind, I did a great deal of faction quests and exploring throughout the southern regions before I actually started to explore the main quest and discovered its importance to the game world. In Oblivion, the significance of the crisis was obvious, so I at least tried to follow through with the main quest as best as I could - the problem was, the daedra-involved stuff was a pain in the ass, so I often broke off to build my character up. So it all depends on Skyrim's take on events, so I'll likely just jump from point to point.
