THE
MANHATTAN
WAR

Origins
The Knights of Arthur

The Liberty Island Vault had a very strange experiment, it was filled with books and Holotapes about the Knights of Old. The Vault Citizens learned to love the way of the Knight and the Security team learned how to master the way of the sword.

CHAPTER 1

July 2nd. 2200.

Arthur and his security team were standing in front of the Liberty Vault door, the Vaults Overseer stood behind them, he was begging them to stay but Arthur ignored him. For weeks Arthur had convinced the rest of the Vaults security team to venture out into the wasteland with the skills they had learned and mastered over the years.

“Captain McCrery please I beg you, stay in the Vault we need you!” begged Overseer Johnson.

“Destiny does not want me to stay here Johnson, I must go into the wastes and recreate the Kingdom King Arthur ruled over many years ago.”

“Please McCrery stay! Your chasing an unrealistic goal, one that is unimportant!”

Arthur clenched his fist, “Unimportant… Un-important?” Arthur turned around and swung his fist at the Overseer, the punch connected to the Overseers jaw and he dropped to the ground, “How dare you! Staying here will do nothing to benefit anything! Our Vault is unimportant, it is safe enough without me, out in the wasteland people need a ruler, a ruler like me, a ruler like King Arthur. I should kill you right now but that would do nothing. We are leaving Johnson, and you will stay here, rule over your own Kingdom, today I venture out to create mine. I bid you farewell. Lancelot activate the door!”

“Of course Captain McCrery.” replied Lancelot.

“Do not call me Captain McCrery, that man is dead, I am King Arthur.” said Arthur.

“Of course… my King.”

Lancelot pressed the button to activate the door, a loud screeching noise echoed throughout the room and the Security team watched as the door opened revealing a poorly lit tunnel with a ladder at the end. Arthur walked ahead of the security team, Lancelot was behind him. They reached the ladder and one by one went out into the wasteland, when they got on surface they were greeted to the sight of Manhattan. Arthur covered his eyes, sunlight was something he had never experienced before. When his eyes adjusted to the light he smiled.

“This is it my Knights, this is where our legacy begins.”

CHAPTER 2

August 23rd. 2200

Arthur had brought the Knights to Manhattan and surveyed the area for a month, Arthur decided the place was to out of control and hostile for the Knights to be able to take over, few factions were even established in Manhattan but a few villages and settlements had been formed. The own faction that was large enough and organized enough was a group of slavers who ruled over Hells Kitchen. Arthur lead the Knights to the Bronx witch was a borough near the north part of Manhattan. The Bronx was much more organized but had a much smaller population, Manhattan had around 1,200 people and the Bronx had around 150. There was no established leadership in the Bronx, but there was four huge settlements that all thrived in there own way. The largest had 57 citizens and there mayor was a man named McMuldrid, McMuldrid founded the town a couple years back, it was built around a warehouse. Arthur decided this would be a perfect place to start recruitment.

“Who the [censored] are you?” asked a Guard, he stood in front of a fenced in settlement with a machete on his hip and a SMG in his hands.

“I am King Arthur, I come here seeking recruitment for my group of Knights, we seek to establish order in the island of Manhattan, but it is to unorganized for me to make an impact.”

The Guard immediately started to laugh, “King Arthur? King? Ha ha ha! That’s [censored] gold. For a King I sure never heard of you.”

Arthur had a look of anger on his face, he felt like killing the man right there but that would do nothing but cause the town to turn hostile.

“Please don’t underestimate me, may I speak to your towns leader? Maybe we can arrange a deal so I can prove my skills.”

“[censored] whatever, I’ll go get Muldrid.”

The Guard opened the gate and walked to the Warehouse in the center of the town, a couple minutes later a man in gold robes started to walk towards Arthur.

“You come to my town asking for recruitment for a group of Knights. You claim you are a King but I know nothing about you.” said the man in a deep and menacing tone.

“My Kingdom is small, it has only existed for a month now. I come to you because I want my Kingdom to grow, please let me prove myself, if you ally with me and my Knights only greatness will follow.”

“Prove yourself… Hmm… I can work with that. There’s a smaller settlement about an hour east from here, go there and kill them all.”

“I refuse your offer unless you give me a better reason in killing them. What have they done to deserve such a fate?”

“It cost less caps to live there than here, they’re stealing my population, I’ve banned everyone here from leaving, that’s why the fences are up. Those who try to leave are killed. Go to the settlement, kill them all and my people will be free once again.”

“They can be free right now if you would let them. I have misjudged you. Your are not the person I want helping my Kingdom. I bid you farewell.”

CHAPTER 3

October 19th. 2200

After Arthur learned more about McMuldrid he wanted nothing to do with him, he instead went to the town McMuldrid wanted exterminated and met all the locals. He told them what McMuldrid wanted to do and he told them about his Kingdom. The towns mayor decided to join Arthur and the rest of the citizens joined also. Arthur and his Knights taught the town how to fight effectively, the town was small so the security force was able to train them all throughout the month of September. By October the town was like a militia and Arthur had set up a knighting ceremony, those who were fit to battle were made into Knights, the rest joined the Knights of Arthur as simple citizens.

Throughout the months Arthur continuously sent scouts to watch over McMuldrid’s town so Arthur could create a plan to attack the settlement. Near the beginning of October the plan was finished and Arthur spent the rest of the weeks detailing the plans to the Knights and practicing it with them. The Knights were now ready.

“Today we march towards McMuldrid’s town in efforts to overthrow his leadership and annex the town into our Kingdom. There will be casualties on both sides in this battle, I know not who will die which is why I say this, to my Knights who die in battle may you know you died a noble death and for a noble cause. Your sacrifice will be honoured and your name will live on forever. Now my Knights, are you ready?”

The crowd of Arthur’s Knights broke into applause and cheer, many bowed to Arthur, it brought a smile to his face.

“Then lets move!” yelled Arthur in an excited and motivating tone.

The Knights began to march towards McMuldrid’s town, within the hour they were there, the guards of the town were confused and worried, they had no idea what was going on.

“What the [censored] is going on? Who the [censored] are they?” said one of the Guards who stood in a sniper tower.

“I don’t [censored] care, shoot them.” said the Guard beside them.

The Snipers began to open fire on the marching force of Knights, when the first gunshot was heard the Knights sprinted towards the town, they ran to the fence and started to climb over, several Knights were shot while trying to climb over but the majority got over it. A group of Knights started to swing there swords at the tower which was supported by old planks of wood, the swords cut through after a few strikes and the Knights pushed the tower down, the guards screamed as they fell down eventually crashing into the concrete. Citizens began to run away while McMuldrid’s guards ran towards the Knights. Arthur ran at a guard with a lead pipe and swung his sword at the guards arm, he was wearing leather armor but the sword cut through it but barley got in any flesh. Arthur kicked the guard in the gut and pulled his sword up and swung it down once again, this time it cut right through the guards arm and he screamed in pain, Arthur swung his sword at the guards wide open mouth and it cut through his head.

Several guards witnessed the brutal kill Arthur had just preformed and immediately dropped there weapons and screamed we surrender, Arthur held his sword by his side.

“Pick up your weapons and attack McMuldrid’s guards, from this day forth you are a Knight of Arthur.”

The Guards did exactly what Arthur said and ran towards there former friends, they shot at them and beat them to death with blunt weapons. Arthur looked at the warehouse where McMuldrid came from, the large door opened and revealed a guard who was manning a Gatling Gun, the guard started to fire at the Knights and many died instantly, the Knights quickly adapted to the situation and either ran out of the way or took cover, Arthur ran into an alley and came out the other end, he was now on the opposite side of the warehouse. There was a back door and Arthur went in it, he could see many of the guards who were running out now that they had the advantage, Arthur hid in the shadows until the majority of the guards were gone. When there was just a few left he ran towards them and easily cut them down with his sword, Arthur then walked up to the Gatling Gunner and stabbed his sword in the back of the guards neck.

Arthur heard some clapping, he turned around to see McMuldrid slowly walking towards him while clapping.

“Congratulations, you have successfully infiltrated my town, the town I created from nothing, the town I spent years perfecting. To bad you won’t live to see your Knights control it, because if I die, I am taking you with me.”

McMuldrid took of his gold robe revealing a sword in a sheathe on his side, he pulled the sword out and ran towards Arthur, Arthur ran towards McMuldrid and kicked him in the chest he swung his sword immediately afterwards but Muldrid blocked it and swung back. The two started to swing there swords at each other over and over but neither could get the advantage over the other, Muldrid stomped on Arthur’s foot and swung his sword at Arthur’s left forearm, the sword cut through and Arthur’s arm fell to the ground. Arthur screamed in pain and dropped his sword from his right hand, he ran at Muldrid and tackled him to the ground, Muldrid had no time to react and dropped his sword when Arthur ran into him. Arthur started to headbut Muldrid over and over until his face. Arthur got back on his feet and stomped on Muldrid’s face. He grabbed his sword and ran to a garbage can that was being used as a fireplace, he stuck his sword in the flames and waited for the metal to heat up, when it was hot he placed the sword on his arm and burnt the wound so it would be sealed, the pain caused him to pass out.

Several Weeks Later

Arthur awoke in a room with a man in a Doctors Coat beside him, the last thing Arthur remembered was burning his wound.

“Where am I?”

“You are with your Knights King, you have been in a coma for three weeks. Your arm was severed in battle but we have healed it. You will live King Arthur, but without a left arm.”

“So… We won the battle?”

“Yes King Arthur.”

“Then it was a necessary sacrifice.”

I don't think anyone has the right to call this non-interesting. The concept is refreshing and I feel like I'm taking a fresh breathe of air after being tramped in some kind of submersible device that just recycles the same air over and over again.

Despite the condensed win that composes this story, there is a little problem with your diction. You don't make the story flow as it should, for example:

he pulled the sword out and ran towards Arthur, Arthur ran towards McMuldrid

You basically said the same thing twice. Some more interesting words are necessary.

he pulled the sword out and ran towards Arthur. Arthur did not wait, but also sprinted to meet him, there was a look of startled surprised from McMuldrid as Authur's boot collided with his chest...

How I rewrote so it wasn't so much a retelling. Also, I continued on to show you something else, character development. Thought, facial expression, dialogue is a great way to develop your character and in intense battle scene it can add some real depth to the character, but it can also break up the flow. So you have to be careful about that.

And Also, try avoid the curse words, the censor tag just looks ridiculous.

Other than that....FREAKING AWESOME!

Thanks Yttrium your advice is always helpful, and I am extremely glad that you enjoyed it. I'll keep what you said in mind when I write the next chapter. Speaking of the next chapter it should be up this weekend.
