Broken Steel destroys it with a space weapon they did not have until after the Rock gets blown up and they lose the purifier. Then we are told that they can fix it with flash bulbs and sensor modules.

Not really, it was the optical components in the cameras, and the electronic components in the sensor modules that were needed to effect repairs not flash bulbs.

Because the components of a camera which still requires a flashbulb are obviously compatable with those of a giant robot which shoots lasers.

It's way easier to piece together a giant and highly advanced robot, that now is in very very many small pieces, with camera optics and sensor module electorincs.
