SWG's Skies v3 Black Sun Issue

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:56 am

I recently downloaded swg's skies v3 (from pes) and the sun is now black. I am using Vista and a Radeon hd 4650 graphics card. Other threads about the issue say that it is an issue with vista and radeon graphic cards but I did not have this issue prior to installing the mod. Maybe I haven't been looking in the right places but, I can't seem to be able to find the fix or workaround for this issue. I would be willing to go back to the vanilla sky textures if it would get rid of the black sun.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue, and it's apparently a problem with certain graphics cards.

Anyway, I use http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IX6I7D4B workaround, and it works great for me.

It's working great! Thanks!

Edit: Hmmm..... I just noticed that the night skies look absolutely horrible; nothing like they were in the screen shots on PES. I tried deleting them but the skies appear the same. Is there any way I can revert back to the vanilla skies? I have all of the vanilla morrowind meshes and textures saved.

He really shouldn't have a fix so essential to the mod hosted on a site like that... You never know when it suddenly dies.

That link isn't working for me. The anit-virus software says it could be harmful, and being on a site like that it wouldn't surprise me. At this point, I would just go back to the vanilla skies if possible.

Don't worry it's 100% safe, it's made and uploaded by SWG :)
This link is the same that you find in PES page too!

By the way I have uploaded the mesh here for you: http://rapidshare.com/files/439069041/sky_night_02.nif

It's working great now! Thanks for uploading it.

Not to be too off topic but, if I wanted to change the sky textures with another mod I would just overwrite the swg sky textures right?

So, if you want to change night sky 01, night sky 02 or clouds 01 you have to delete his meshes (sky_night_01.nif, sky_night_02.nif and sky_clouds_01.nif)
Delete those only if you want to change night and clouds skies textures!

I didn't want to start a whole new thread so I posted in this relevant one. Is my sun black because I'm using Windows 7 Home Edition? I read in http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=12872313&postcount=2 that Windows 7 and Vista have this problem. I just bought a new computer and installed morrowind and I have the black sun.

Now, it doesn't bother me and I'm not looking to fix it. I just want to know if it is indeed true that this problem occurs on all machines with operating systems that are Windows 7 or Vista. Is it true? Every single Windows 7/Vista machine that comes out of the factory will generate this "black sun"?

No, it's a problem specific to ATi cards. I believe the fix has already been posted, it's incredibly easy to fix.

I searched "black sun" on this forum but didn't find any fix threads related to it.
