Movies to get in the mood for Skyrim

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:36 pm

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387541/ is awesome. Always thought it was called Curse of the Ring though.

Should be watched in combination with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYRArhM2uDI. Be warned if you haven't seen the film yet, that's a fan made video which, while awesome, also gives away the entire plot. Doesn't matter if you're familiar with Wagner's opera though, since you'll already know everything.

I think Beowulf is the closest to the games storyline. It uses 3D animation for starters; that should ease any gamer right in. It's got all the stereotypical characters required; The Hero, the Hot Villain, the King, the sensible Friend, the Princess, The Monster, The Dragon... everything..

Plus it's in a snowy; Nordic setting. The works..

The obvious choice is The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I guess I'd also watch Beowulf (despite it being a pretty average film) and Conan the Barbarian.

I would say Braveheart, just because it is the best film ever made!

I wholeheartedly agree with every syllable of this statement even though they were Scots and not Vikings or "Nords" ....
But the brutality of the battle scenes are the best ever seen on film....and it had everything, it made you laugh, it made you cry, betrayal, love, bitter enemies, revenge, you name it, it's in there....

People actually liked "Pathfinder" and "Outlander"? O.o

I can't say it would get me in the mood specifically, but I can only think of LOTR as something in a similar vain that's actually any good.

Wo thanks 3-26 for the excellent list of unseen films filling me with wonder at what i will find especially the viking movies. Maybe i'll run into some of the creepy inquistion black and white movies i saw as a baby in the 1960s and 70s.

Theres gotta be some talented people on here who can make a film. Come up with something wild and crazy then pitch it to Bethesda and see if they can throw you flow from their marketing budget for you to make a short film.

Where is Lord of the Rings? I thought for sure they would be mentioned. Come on, tell me that in Fellowship of the Ring, going up the Mountians will not remind you of Skyrim. Also I would love to see something like in Return of the King, when they lit the beacons. Tell me that wasn't pure AWSOME and that could be a great feel for Skyrim now.
