Witch game would you advice getting?

Man I wish Van Buren hadn't been axed by Interplay, even if it made Tactics non-canon... Eh, I guess if Bethesda learned anything from NV, future Fallouts should be okay, if they dont revert to the Rule of Cool... oh god i hope they learned from NV.

Just because your older does not make you intellectually smarter. I know many old idiots and many young prodigies.

debating a games style has nothing to do with intelligence?? it was never mentioned

I think Bethesda should contract a third party to create a Fallout game in line with the originals.
Old mechanics.
Old map node system.
Old isometric bird eye view.
And old turn-based system.
Only certain NPC's have talking heads and voices.

The game would be around FO2's size, maybe bigger, maybe smaller, but it would be a far smaller project than a "full sized game".
It would allow Bethesda to collect royalties, a third party to create a Fallout game, and a low budget project to test and see how well an isometric TB game would fare.
Game would be sold for 299 kronors/29.9 USD.

Unless they do something like this we simply don't have any [censored] clue as to whether or not a fully isometric TB game would be successful or not.
But to say that an isometric TB game would not sell well is not fact, it's merely theory, no true facts to back it up as far as I've seen.
I don't generally buy sports games but I bought Skate 2 and had tons of fun with it.
So who knows, maybe tons of the newer gaming generation will be more open to the idea of a TB game than we think.

auld scad No but you did mention age difference which is very condescending, like; "I'm older than you are, you're just a teen, therefor you don't have enough life experience to fully discuss this subject at hand."
Might not have been your intention but people interpret things differently, and bringing up age differences is a crap argument that brings forth flamebaiting and thread locks, very unnecessary.

I just think your kidding yourself if you think turn based games are still popular. if they were companies would still be making them. you dont hear of any top selling TB games anymore

there are companies that still make them, and they sell millions of copies. It's not our fault you didn't bother to look them up...Points to all the TB JRPG's, and other games like AoW.

Just look at this:
http://www.elementalgame.com/

A turn based game, that basically the spiritual successor to thew awesome game that was Master of Magic. released August 24, 2010

The only reason FO3 was realesed the way it was is because gamesas can't seem to break there "TES formula" and they aimed it squarely at the "main stream" market. where FPS is a sure fire money move. If they tried to aim it at the RPG crowd I think TB would have made a much better reception. AS a modern TB play would be pretty similar to the RTwP style of play you see in NWN and Dragon age.

Auld, just stop now, you were acting like you were superior. It's a waste of time to do TB-Games anymore, because FPS-Fanatics are the majority. As previously stated, RPG's are about as rare as finding a gold nugget in your back yard. We've got FPS with RPG characteristics. I hope soon, an amazing RPG comes out that really forces companies to say, "Wow, this is one killer RPG that doesn't follow Rule of Cool and made a ton of money." Will it happen?

Sadly, no.

Get off your high horse gabe. i never once said he wasnt experienced enough to discuss the subject, i was just pointing out that i had played TB games before. not nearly as bad as the way some of the 'original' fans talk down to the fallout 3 fans

May I point out that Van Buren was to have optional real-time combat. That does not account for the iso, but it was a step towards a way modern TB Fallouts could have been handled (3D, turn based/real time toggle). I don't agree that Fallout should revert back to full-on turn based and iso, but I think that option for turn based and adding a node system to the game would be completely appropriate. Considering the kind of people who play video games nowadays, I don't doubt that a TB game would sell like crap. I do think that there is no way to know unless it is done though.

Everyone Stop! We are SO far off topic, it is not funny! This is suppost to be a topic about someone honestly asking which game to get, not which game to BASH! Now let's calm down, take a step away from the computer, and then get back on subject.

We are WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY off topic. As Paladin said, lets recommend what games to get, not bash turn based combat.

"Might not have been your intention but people interpret things differently."

And yeah this is offtopic enough, gonna stop now.

So on topic again: Fallout 1 :D
Cause it will give you the best understanding of what Fallout really is.

[edit]

BTW, auld scad, if you wish to reply to this post then take it up in PM's.

I'll be honest, I forgot what the original point of this thread was, and now I remember, didn't the OP say they'd get Fallout 3 a couple pages back? I may be wrong.

Myeah, but this thread might be useful for new potential fans/players.

Or maybe the thread should just be locked since it's kinda derailed long ago.

Very derailed. Folks, you have a whole series board to discuss such as this on.
