Scariest game you've played on Consoles

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:57 pm

amnesia ..... scariest game ever. i still havent finished it and i cant play it for more than 20 minutes before i have to shut it off. im not even that far cause i creep along. :) in comparison......dead space was boring as hell and about as scary as my cat chloe. after amnesia would be the first couple of penumbra games (same developer, they know their [censored]), the first silent hill and then probably resident evil. im sure im forgetting some.

edit: forgot .........the first STALKER game not so much CoP or clearsky since those became more actiony while shadows of chernobyl was more survival horror like resident evil.

nm..........half of these arent on console.

Silent Hill 1-2-3-4 (Hated Shattered Memories. Wasn't scary at all when you find out that you can't be attacked in the "real" world)

I'd find Fatal Frame 1 (Haven't played 2) to be scary as well but... the horrible english voice acting pretty much kills the spooky atmosphere. Silent Hill 1's voice acting was horrible, but at least characters didn't speak often. :P

I have fond memories of playing Silent Hill 1's Alchemilla Hospital at 2 AM, headphones on, in pure darkness, in the basemant which is open and has half of the walls covered with mirrors. :D
The most difficult part was actually walking back to my room on the second floor, in pure darkness since the basemant's light switch is at the start of the stairs.

Playing Silent Hill on the PS1 with all those creepy sounds and music in the middle of the night wasn't the best of ideas, and eventually I felt too freaked out so I quit. And I never played a Silent Hill game since then :P

Fatal Frame 2, available on PS2 and Xbox, IMO the best and scariest game.

I couldn't play that game alone. One of the earlier cutscenes, the one with the ghostly shoulder tap, was one of the eeriest moments in my video game history.

The Blood Siren demo on the PS2...I HATE both horror games and films (yes I'm a wuss) but for some reason I tried the demo, you're a little girl with a flashlight that can't attack anyone but whitin the first 10 seconds you see a cop zombie that as soon as he sees you starts chasing you...I had no idea how to escape and ejected the disk before he got me

Uh, Dead Space? I mean the game isn't focused on just thongs jumping out, and yes things do, but it is actually scary. Both Dead Space 1 & 2.

BioShock is pretty damn scary for the first few levels. I wouldn't buy it if I was shopping for a horror game in itself, but the tense atmosphere is a huge part of the game's appeal. While I am just about the only person on the internet who adores BioShock 2, I can't call it scary like the first game simply because Rapture isn't new by the time you get to the sequel.

Alan Wake can get pretty creepy but I was never immersed in it very well.

But if you want proper horror then you've going to have to migrate to the PC for Amnesia: The Dark Descent and its less refined predecessor series Penumbra. They are the two most immersive, atmospheric horror games I've ever played. They do horror right.

I need to check out Call of Cthulu. It apparently does a good job of keeping the player tense.

Uh, Dead Space? I mean the game isn't focused on just thongs jumping out...

I should certainly hope not!

SHADOWMAN on Dreamcast.

One part of the game has you stalking a serieal killer around a dilapidated mansion...just you, him and a big empty house. Scariest game moment ever.

The scariest game I've ever played was on a console, and that was Silent Hill 2 for the Playstation 2 and Xbox.

I thought FEAR was going to be scary. I was disappointed...

Yeah, you'd expect the game to contain some of its namesake, but alas, no fear was provoked when I played it.

For me, the scariest/jumpiest I've played is a tie between the first Silent hill and Siren Blood curse.

Especially Siren. That game gives me chills.

Fatal Frame I and III for the PS2.

Fatal Frame II was light on the scary side.

Alan Wake did well at creating a creepy atmosphere, although it isn't so much of a horror game as it is a thriller. Also Dead Space/Dead Space 2 are both pretty freaky. ;)

Definately the original Silent Hill for PSX. Admittedly I was very young, but even replaying it years later was still one hell of an experience.

No other game has ever gotten all of the horror elements so right. The use of sound, the creature design, the fact that it was so dark that you rarely got the whole picture of the horror around you, the limited weapons and ammunition, and the fact that your character didn't handle a gun like a trained soldier. Every time I had to go into the alternate world, I felt an immense sense of dread.

Silent Hill 2 was just as good.

Console only i would say the RESIDENT EVIL series when i used to own a PLAYSTATION 1 always scared me and felt like a actual zombie simulator. Never expected that in the early days of the PLAYSTATION but times were a changing :D
