Even if there IS a transportation system...

I hope we would travel in real time..

say you got a horse and carriage to the next town... I want to actually sit in the wagon and enjoy the ride... same with boats...

simply teleporting to the next town is still an immersion killer.

as long as there is a choice to skip it, it would become so tedious and boring after a while

That defeats the whole purpose of travel services. You could just go somewhere on your own horse if you want to go sightseeing.

I agree with this 100%. I'd love to see them casting off by boat and walking around on the deck (eg if you wanted to skip the thing you could go into the cabin and select the bed to sleep until you arrive), or taking carriage.

The skip button would be built into the ride, obviously.

No, because any world needs transport systems. It's as easy as that.

Im all for the option to watch the journey but travel services are supposed to be an alternate form of fast travel, having to watch the whole journey would sort of defeat the purpose.

Edit for spelling error.

Red Dead Redemption had it good. Things like carriages to take you to other towns, you can sit and watch the ride, or hit the skip button for it to just teleport you there.

Well then, maybe you should think it through again.

Morrowind's system is fast travel that instantly takes you to the next town instead of letting you discover stuff. Oops, broke your immersion. I don't see how it is game breaking though. Especially since when you realize that Morrowind and Oblivion had the same game time and if Oblivion didn't have fast travel it would take 3 times longer than Morrowind was. I would get really tired of walking the same route over and over again. I've already put forth the idea of Fast travel only to cities and villages and letting there be a travel network that is only available certain parts of the day for those that don't like the limited fast travel. A travel network sitting around, static all day every day would be an immersion breaker to me. It should only be available at certain times during the day and they times that it isn't available they are off shuttling other people around.

I think Red Dead Redemption handled fast travel pretty well. That would be the type of travel I'd want.

I agree if travel services are implemented than they should be in real time, with option to skip of course, but if not skipped than maybe there would be the possibility of having to fend off an attack along the way, etc. etc.

I also posted this in another thread--seemed applicable here, because it is basically my idea for realtime fast travel.

Since it is Skyrim, and since this could loosely fit into the established 'lore' and culture of that society, I think the most practical form of fast travel that they could implement in the game(besides caravan, mammoth, etc.), is to utilize some kind of ancient Thu'um transport, by shouting you across the map. Perhaps scattered throughout the game world, and in each major city, there could be small mystical ruins or ancient pieces of architecture that had been magically infused(enchanted) ages ago by the most powerful 'tongues' of old, with the ability to transport people by shout. Something similar to the size and design of the Ayleid Wells in Oblivion, but with a nordic style, and maybe each could house a large crystal at its core, which when struck with a rod or activated with a spell or something will ring and then reverberate with the sound of the shout, carrying whoever activated it, wherever they wish to go. Whats more, is that since its already been stated that the cities won't be sealed off from the rest of the gameworld, they could, in theory, create an animation in which you dissolve and become one with the shout, speeding across the land with the sound and the wind, before re-materializing at your destination.(WOULD REALLY MAKE FAST TRAVEL SEEM MORE LIKE 'FAST TRAVEL')

Just a note to Sleign: I'm pretty sure that comment was sarcastic...

But yeah, the idea of a transport network would make sense,,, And the ability to choose whether or not to see it in real time would be great. I remember wanting to experience riding on the back of a silt strider in Morrowind, that would have been really interesting and beautiful.

I would think that a good alternative to fast travel that only takes you to cities or villages is a portal system between mages guild buildings in each city. Because most people won't like the fact of having to wait for the alternating time schedule of a travel network. Frankly, if it will stop the fighting between those that are for fast travel and those that are for a travel system, then we should just have no travel system and just either go on foot or ride mounts. But getting rid of a travel system will have to wait til after we see how the one in Skyrim works and if some people are still unhappy with it, then TES VI can remove it. I for one have confidence that BGS will make a perfect travel system.
