The fog was thick as the great ship cut its way through the final short stretch of water between it and the crumbling old dock. The port belonged to what was once Fort Frostmoth, yet the legion had lost control of the area in recent years following the events of the Bloodmoon prophesy and the Oblivion Crisis and it had taken over once more by the indigenous Skaal. Several members of the tribe now stoof on the broken stone dock as the ship made its way in. They calmly helped to moor the boat, though they wouldn't let anyone step ashore yet. Over time another 5 or 6 Skaal arrived, armed with mean looking axes, they stood guard on the vessel whilst the original two, who turned out to be emmisaries summoned the ship's captain down to talk. The conversation was held out on the docks, there was no point going anywhaere private because nobody could possibly hear them above the whislting of the wind.

The captain opened the speaking, producing a document upon which the Imperial seal could be seen. The Skaal took the document and inspected it, looking up now and agian to question the captain. Eventually they handed the document back and the captain seemed to think that was it because he began to walk towards the ship, he even made signals to disembark. A shout from the Skaal stopped him in his tracks and he turned back, a couple of minutes of discussion ensued and the captain became quite heated, yelling at the big Nords who seemed completly unfazed by the irate man. Eventually the captain stopped yelling and stormed back to the ship and into hearing.
"They won't let us land"
He yelled to his second
"We have to make landfall at the Rock, [censored]s don't give a damn about how dangerous the approach is"
Raven's Rock wasn't far from the old fort and, with good winds and some luck the ship made its journey unscathed to the ghost town, once more rising out of the mists... There was no welcoming party this time, just the broken remains of the old mining camp, the place had seen horrible things, it had been attacked by werewolves, daedra, even the Skall had had a go at the place under one of its regimes. Yet people kept coming back, there was something special about ebony... people would do a lot for the dark rock.

Background

Raven's Rock was the first colony on Solstheim, it was built there to exploit the rich seams of ebony that littered the surrounding area. Of course the people of Raven's Rock weren't the first on the island, they just considered the Skaal uncivilised so they were the 'first civilised' people to live on Solstheim. Unfortuneately because of the dissapearance of the Nerveraine and subsequent unrest and rebellion by the Skaal, as well as the Oblivion crisis Raven's Rock was destroyed and abandoned. The area was profitable however and it didn't take long for people to return to the remains of the town, driven by greed. They met with opposition, the Skaal had taken back the island and were very reluctant to give land to the new colonists. In fact they made it very difficult for the profiteers, hindering progress by any means possible, they did everything from chasing away local wildlife to actively stealing from the populace. All In all Raven's Rock was deemed unprofitable.

The lure of the ebony was irresistable however and despite the hostile natives and harsh conditions some still dared to take the risk of founding a colony on Solstheim. Funded by the East Empire Company, you are one of those who dared, will you manage to make this godforsaken rock profitable or fail and die at the hands of the weather, skaal or the creatures that roam the isle?

How it will work

This roleplay will be GMed by myself, thoroughout it your characters will be presented with puzzles decisions and challenges, some to do with the daily running of the colony, others to do with events and their consequences. As GM I will be dictating the outcome of any decisions you make, based on how good (This isn't going to be too serious a roleplay, if its funny it might work too) your solution is as well as how you carry it out. Decisions can be made on an individual basis and I will be on several times a day to keep up the plot for everybody. people will have different roles within the colony and failing to fullfill them will have consequences for the rest colonists e.g. if you never bother to reclaim the mine, you won't make any money. (don't worry about enacting the boring tasks, you just have to order an npc to do it.)

Events

Events will come in several ways;

Individual; small things that will only affect the characters persent (e.g. someone might fall and get stranded in the snow, if his friend who was there just leaves him overnight he will die. (Characters have a real chance of dieing in this and I intend to be merciless, however there is a plentiful supply of colonists coming to raven's Rock so feel free to send me another sheet if you do die.))

Collective; large events that effect everyone these may come if someone doesn't do their duties (if nobody bothers to clearout the mine eventually the venture will go bust - game over.) Or just randomly.

Most events won't have such harsh consequences as some of these but you get the idea... Events will come when I see fit and I'll try to spread things around equally.

Roles
General roles that you can take up as a character are as follows:

Expedition Leader: Head of the colony and overall admin for everything - we need somebody to take this role and whoever does so will get to order everyone else around... unless people decide to mutiny
Guard: Optional role for one or two people, you just get different jobs to colonists
Colonist: Your standard greedy bugger, most people should be taking this role, you'll get a diverse array of jobs and events

If you think of other possible roles tell me, this is pretty basic and its likely that people will find more specific jobs that they want as they get into the roleplay.

Rules
All the usual stuff and...
If I am using an Npc don't hijack them, I might have plans for them
What I say goes
If your character dies, please don't just change the name and come back, that would cause some very swift deaths...
You can kill each other and be generally rather mean but I decide the outcome of every decision, though I won't get in the way if everybody decides to lynch a player (unless their escape is really good)
Romance is fine (its cold outside why don't we snuggle together for warmth :D )

sorry for the delays with this, its been caused by a mix of last minute christmas shopping and problems with plot, ( this is going to be a puzzle roleplay where the outcomes are based on your decisions and, because the ways in which you can solve a problem in an rp are fairly diverse its been hard to come up with a plot fluid enough to fit this.)

So anyway just some more detail, as I said earlier its going to be a puzzle roleplay, I will be dictating the outcome of your attempts to solve the many problems the colonists will have. decisions are acted out in character I will decide responses, tehy don't have to beunanimous so people can do things behind each other's backs and screw it up for everybody on their own. For this to work we need as many people as possible. if anyone fancies giving me any puzzle ideas pm me but, if you do you can't solve em yourself :P

Sounds pretty interesting, is there going to be some kind of character sheet or something related to that? And when will this start?
