The ?NPC Head Replacer? Comparison Thread!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:03 am

You need to tell us which mod you downloaded. If you've seen an NPC before then the head may be saved, but if the mod is pluginless then it will still work okay.

I downloaded the vvardenful faces. Its supposed to be plugin less but for some reason I put the meshes and textures in and all the faces still look the same. I tried deleting the data file and reinstalling and nothing changed. I guess Im lost...

Okay, there are a couple of possible causes:

- Are you sure you put the meshes/textures into the right folders? The head and hair meshes should be in Data Files\Meshes\B, and the textures go straight into Data Files\Textures.

- Are you using the Steam version of Morrowind, by any chance? If so, the game's BSA files will overwrite anything else in the Data Files folder because they have a later date. You can use a program like http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/filedatech.html to redate Morrowind.bsa (and Tribunal/Bloodmoon.bsa, if necessary) to 1/1/2002, which should cause the new meshes and textures to load properly.

Yes I have the meshes and textures in the right folders. Unless... Well when looking at the meshes and textures folders it seems that the folders look like this. meshes>meshes>then all my other folders. I think this is because of my better bodies mod. Once I click on either meshes or textures their is a folder that says bb and then one that will say meshes or textures depending on which I'm looking at. Is this a problem? Do I need to be reordering my files?

I also do not have the steam version, I have the GOTY box set.

On a separate not how noticeable should the better bodies mod be?

It is very noticeable, once you've seen the difference, you want no other, especially not the vanilla ones. Anyway, there's the problem, your folders. Those folders named bb should go in Data Files/Meshes, same goes for the textures folder.

You can't have a meshes folder in your meshes folder. That won't work.
Grab the meshes folder that is in your meshes folder, and drop it into your Data Files folder. Say Yes to any overwrites.

Very. You will notice a huge difference in what the bodies look like.

You're probably using Vista or Windows7, right?

It is also very easy to just make a macro with MGE, so you can use any key you want as the console.

If you have more issues, I suggest making a new thread to, so as to not derail this one.

Hello, I'm having a problem with the mod Changing Faces NPC Replacer. They claim that there will be hardly anymore clones, but in my game, every guard has the same face, the one that Caius Cosades has. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this?

It's also worth too mention http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Headreplacers.htm by Emma with some nice screenshots.
AfroKing if you have the time it would be awesome if you would update this wonderful thread. Btw if anyone are bored by the default faces at Seyda Neen I highly recommend http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14006. The uploader over at Nexus didn't provided any screenshots for this mod, but because of AfroKing's great comparison screenshots it's now a must-have for me. It's sad that Boethiah539 only did this Head mod for Morrowind. I like his style very much, it's really lore friendly. Imo it shoud basically just improve the quality of the faces. http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/521/ufpseydaneen2.jpg as seen in Unique Faces Project - Seyda Neen is a very good example of what I mean a Head Replacer should be. It still looks like Fargoth before and after just better.
I love such regionally themed Head replacer mods, soo if anyone have some more suggestions besides what's in this thread I would be very happy.

Hi y’all

First thing, let me thank every forumer who took the time to leave some feedback. You have no idea how proud I am to hear that this thread has been useful to the community.

This motivates me to resume working on it. I was actually quite amazed, a few minutes ago, when I realized that my last update dates back to September 2009. Wow. Time flows… :hehe:

Again, everything that was promised will be done. It will just take some time… :whistling:

Next on my to-do list:

- Add screenshots of Astarsis' replacers and Detritus' Khajiit Faces Replacer;
- Add shots of Argonians, Khajiits and Orcs to the major replacers (thanks to CABRON for pointing their absence out);
- Fix/replace the darkest shots (thanks to Tanvar for reporting this issue);
- Fix any inaccuracy caused by mod conflict should they be confirmed (the ones reported so far regarding Beryl Head Replacer have been invalidated through the CS on a clean install).

Also, you may have noticed that the NPCs featured in my screenshots so far are (mostly) randomly chosen. I think it could be interesting to have a picture comparing how the major replacers handle prominent characters from Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon main quests. If not key-NPCs, at least characters that every player is bond to meet in the course of his adventures.
Unfortunately I have not beaten the game yet, so I'm not sure which NPC should be featured on this pic. I will need your suggestions. A dozen names should do.

This and Emma’s LGNPC Khuul Head Replacer. And Wesly’s Head Replacer when it’s completed. And uploading the whole thread to GHF once everything is done.

Regarding the choice of the main quest NPCs who will be featured in my comparison pics, I will follow Helena’s suggestions:

Temple: Mehra Milo, Archcanon Saryoni (Vivec)
Hlaalu: Crassius Curio (Vivec), Orvas Dren (Dren Plantation)
Redoran: Athyn Sarethi, Bolvyn Venim (Ald'ruhn)
Telvanni: Master Aryon (Tel Vos), Divayth Fyr (Tel Fyr)
Ashlanders: Nibani Maesa, Sul-Matuul (Urshilaku camp)
Imperial guilds: Hasphat Antabolis (Balmora), Sharn gra-Muzgob (Balmora)

(That's just Morrowind, by the way; I'll let someone else tackle Bloodmoon and Tribunal.)

Now, I will welcome some input for Tribunal and Bloodmoon NPCs, as well as a small selection of Orcs, Khajiits and Argonian NPCs.

Thanks! :thumbsup:
