GECK - Horrendous Camera Control

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:40 am

Greetings all.

I'm experiencing camera issues with the GECK that are similar to this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1067990-optimizingpersonalizing-geck/

If there are other threads like this I apologize, but after an hour and a half of searching these forums (partly due to Bethesda's Draconian flood limit... 300 seconds!) this was the only thread I found.

The poster in the thread above was able to solve the issue by setting the "Fly Camera Movement" settings to 1 (initially empty). When I attempt to change these settings, the changes do not get saved and are reverted back to an empty value. Searching the GECKCustom.ini didn't unveil any variables that appear to be related.

If anyone can help me solve this frustrating issue, I would be infinitely grateful.

Camera Problem Description:
The camera is unresponsive and laggy. It takes a great distance of mouse tracking to get the camera to move at all, but when it does it moves almost 90 degrees, making it impossible to focus on anything.
This affects the default camera controls as well as the Fly Camera. On closer inspection, it appears the camera will move by mere pixels while mouse tracking before "flying" across the map (Mouse Acceleration? I've tried setting those values to 0 in the ini to no avail).

System Information:
  • OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
  • CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 @ 3.2 GHz
  • GPU: AMD Radeon 4870 1GB (GDDR5)
  • RAM: 4GB DDR3
  • Drivers + Net Framework updated up to yesterday (7/10/10)

Hmm not sure... All I can offer is that the fly camera is usually pretty messed up, even for me and I have a pretty high end machine. Not sure why normal camera would be though. :/

The GECK is not the game. Its a resource hog and requires a better computer than the game does to use it.

If your in the exterior and you are trying to view a wide piece of the landscape, its going to lag no matter what your machine specs.

Interior spaces will give some issues if you try to view a 'long' set of tiles. I mostly just view from the top looking down to avoid issues when I am building.

Are you saving the 'ini' that is in your 'My Documents' folder or the one in the game? The one in 'Documents' is the only one that is used.

I wasn't aware there was another GECKCustom.ini in the game folder, so I saved using the one found in documents. I believe my computer specs (see above) should be adequate for smooth(er) operation in the GECK (built it myself :D). I've used other editors like Valve's Hammer and Far Cry 2's Worldbuilder with no such problems. I really don't know where else to look for a solution.

I've also now tried running GECK with all programs and network capability turned off (using AMD's Fusion Utility). No such luck :( .

Thank you both for replying!

I have an HD5770 video card and its still choppy. I built my computer myself as well.
The GECK really does not compare to those other worldbuilders.
