How many characters do you create before playing the whole g

I'll quote myself to explain the character creation and tutorial, which is relevant for players who create few characters when starting the game, like me:

- I liked Morrowind because of how freaking real the whole process felt and how it made you feel like a dust-worth prisoner thrown in the wild, even if it was awfully confusing by 2003 (such open design, i don't think it would be so problematic now), the game mechanisms were lightly explained and ended a bit abruptly. It was less like a videogame which is better to me but with a little tweak or two to make it less confusing it would be quite the thing. In the end i settle for that realism.
- In Oblivion i found it kinda cheesy to find the King at the beginning of the game, but the tutorial instructed the player much better (in a more traditional and predictable way) but the first time in the dungeon felt great nonetheless with that tension and discovering the graphics and physics, and reaching the light of the day at the end in such a breathtaking natural landscape was KILLER.

What people don't realize is that AS DESIGNERS they want to make an unforgettable first impression that wows the player and is part of the experience (unlike other companies that don't care at all), instead of a practical assistant for those that create 5 characters before settling for one. See?

So the solution that makes everyone happy should be separating the character creation process from the tutorial, which breaks Bethesda's proposition.


So, that's me. How many characters do you create, and how will the lack of classes affect your character creation process?

I will probably just make one very detailed that I put much effort in creating, and use it through the whole game. Then I'll just play around.

one dark elf character. always. then after im done i move on to different races. although i always go back to my original dark elf.

I usually always make just one, but sometimes if I make a big mistake or something irreversible I make one more just so I can have everything the way I want it :P

One character start, I may create another before playing "the whole game" since it's a TES game so there's no tangible end/completion.

Just one. Sometimes the character isn't right, so I redo it a couple of times, but now I've had experience - just one.

It depends on the game. In Morrowind, I had to make 2 test characters before I could make a custom class that I was happy with, and then I really started to get into it and explore the game with my 3rd character.

In Oblivion, I just dove into the game right away with my first character. I was already familiar with the system though, because of all the time I spent playing Morrowind.

I actually think that the lack of classes is a good thing. This way I get to think of my character's background, and just play him accordingly without worrying about if I really need the block skill, or if I should take security instead.

Lack of classes helps a lot. I can just play my character how I want to, and it makes sense that way. I probably won't be restarting as much, but I'll still have different characters with different play styles. At least 2.

at least two, as per my standard TES routine. 1 to figure out the game, 1 to actually play the game. Basically the role of the first one is to figure out what not to do, what skills you don't like, etc.

Normally my first character is one I just use to run through the game at a fairly speedy rate just so I can get a good feeling for it. Then I'll create a few different characters, all with different specializations (Stealth, Magic, Combat). However, with the absence of classes now, it looks like nearly any character can become somewhat of a Jack-of-All-Trades with enough time put into it. So I'd have to say probably around 2 characters or so.

I wish there were more race-specific events like when you first start in Oblivion where the prisoner talks to you. I hope they spread those events throughout the entire game.
