Buying a house.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:13 am

I want to buy a house but I'm not sure where I should buy. The Imperial City would be conveniant because of it's location and it's cheaper but Bravil is also somewhat conveniant because of the night mother and a thieves guild fence. Which should I pick?

i say teh imperial shack, its cheaper, and later on you'll probably buy the house in skingrad, or use a dlc house. My oldest character still uses the shack, it convient to walk 3 steps and grab you crap and then leave

Imperial Shack fo sho. Maybe not as big, but it seems more "home-like" and cozy, it can't be in a more centralized part of Cyrodiil, and the IC is just better then Bravil with more shops, services, ect, ect.

I really couldn′t vote without knowing more about your character. I guess it′s a thief and assassin, but what about magic and alchemy? If those are important things I′d go with Imperial City due to Arcane University and the abundance of ingredients to be found in the shops.

Bravil however has much more charm and is close to Sheogorath′s mysterious island. Not to mention, a certain cute little wood elf live there too

Good point, My character does pretty much all factions/ guilds which is why I wasn't sure because the fighters guild and mages guild do not have halls in the IC.

I recommend the IC shack. After completing the TG, move into the TG guildmaster quarters at the Waterfront. You are still close to the University.

@ mirocu: Aww, thanks!

Have you considered, perhaps, a house... boat? One that's completely free? You can pretty much take over the Marie Elena at the IC waterfront, provided that you first... somehow dispose of... the swarthy bunch that gives you dirty looks whenever you get too close. You can actually do that in a number of different ways that won't get your hands directly bloody. Once the nuisance is eliminated, you'll find that it has a number of safe containers onboard (the various sacks), a comfy bed, plus respawning fine wine and sweetrolls. I mean, c'mon, Sweetrolls!

I recommend the IC shack.

What??!!??

Has something happened here since I have been gone?
Acadian, no, not you, surely not!

Bravil is the best town and safe house in the realms- it is that perfect bit larger, allowing you to toss things around, I enjoy the seperate sleeping area rather than have everything all together. Plus a better wardrobe.
The TG fence is upstairs, Nordinor, Nilawen and Daenlin are also just around the corner.
The city has every guild you need, it is friendly and has heaps of Nightshade just over the town walls.

Oh, and it doesnt have smelly pirates keeping you awake at night.

Heh, you know where I would live, but OP sounds like perhaps he wants to do everything without an emphasis on RP. The shack has the central location of the IC with the convenience of the University and is very cheap until completing the TG. Then, the TG guildmaster quarters makes for very very short move to a great set of digs for the GF. Just need Imperial Furniture to add a fireplace or drop some lit torches in the alcoves for a warm homey feel.

Now, if he wants to play a little elven creature of the forest, Bravil is perfect as you and I well know! :foodndrink:

*wolf breathes a deep sigh of relief*

I was very worried there, I thought some malaise had stolen over you recently!

It looks like I shall have to recruit some more Bravil lovers- we are losing the poll.

Please buy Bravil- the price is close and that horrible IC shack does not even have enough room to swing a Khajiit.
It is only good for the RP of a waterfront rat like Teresa!!

It's all about what house you want and what kind of set up you would like.. My first house in Oblivion was in Bruma ( liked the town setup ) but I was also level 35 when I got it.. I really didn't keep all of the equipment that I found (i.e mace's, bows, arrows, Claymores etc )bartered for gold For most of the Eq I found.. Because I was a Altermer Mage I just cared about my staff, potions, herbs and soul gems..

Just for Fyi the waterfront house has very limited room I believe it has one chest ( for your equipment ) and a dresser draw ( for armor and clothing ) but it is convenient to the Imperial city ...

Just wanted to give you a little heads up at the end there..

I'm convinced. I'm going Bravil.

that horrible IC shack does not even have enough room to swing a Khajiit.

and that just may be the best thing I've ever head.

The IC shack costs 4000 once fully equipped. It is a one room place with a fireplace and 4 storage containers. 50 feet out the front door is the 'Abandoned Shack' in which all 7 sacks are safe storage if you want to augment.

The Braivl house costs 7900 once fully equipped. It is a three room place with fireplace, wine and weapon racks. It has 5 storage containers. On the porch about the Archers Paradox is a chest that is close and safe if you need more.

Both are waterfront simple places and well-suited to the simple life of a hunter or thief.

I tried living in the thieves guild guildmaster quarters once, I wouldn't recommend it imperial guards have gotten in there after me.

Between imperial city and bravil I'd say buy them both. Nice to have safe haven on the south side of the map but the imperial city is more convenient if you don't fast travel all the time.

If I happen to "find" a key to a rather nice home in an upscale neighborhood, formely occupied by a nasty grave robber, would I be able to take up residence there? Or would I be "stealing" every time I took something out of a container there?

If it is your own equipment, and was originaly yours, it is not stealing, even if the container is not yours.

Well, I′d go with Bravil for you. Like I said it has loads more charm than Imperial City and both guilds have halls there :twirl:

Imperial City for sure. It's better from an RP point of view (assuming you're a thief ofcourse) and a much better location.
