Old Olney Sewers

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:00 pm

Hi there, I'm new here. I'm up to the part in Fallout 3 where you have to find the Olney Powerworks. I've found the Olney Sewers but find searching through difficult because I keep getting killed by those Deathclaws. Do you guys have any tips on how to get through the Olney Sewers? I need help.

For Deathclaws in general, I'd suggest trying to cripple their legs, as their jump attacks and all around speed are their strongest assets. A Dart Gun is good for this, though you will have to hunt around for the schematics and parts.

Other than that, I'm not sure what else could help -- it's been a while since I have played. :) Really, the only other advice I'd give is to simply level up and improve your skills, then return at a later date.

Setting up a small minefield works too. Sneak around a little and set the mines, then get the deathclaws to chase you through your minefield. This tactic will kill anything if you have enough mines.

Get the Lincoln Repeater. It's a unique lever action rifle which is easy to get and very effective against deathclaws. It can be found in...

Broken Steel Dogmeat has 15,000 hp at level 30. It's nearly impossible to kill him.

I second the landmines. Two or three should slow down a Deathclaw enough to make it far less dangerous.

Just did it at level 14. Dogmeat seems to be able to fight with them endlessly and I just pour fire into em' while he keeps them busy. No problem, maybe 3 simpacks total. Lincoln Repeater and Combat Shotgun mostly. Finished off the Alien Blaster ammo on the first two.

Compared to FNV they are big pussies. Running BOS add on so the dog is pretty tough.

Yes, in vanilla Fallout 3, he has 500 hp. If you install Broken Steel before meeting him, he turns into SuperDog.

Dart gun, Alien Blaster, and Combat shotgun with Fawkes, Dogmeat, and Winterized PA worked for me. If you can't find Fawkes you should go to

Also if you don't have Dogmeat

The Scrapyard near the Minefield

Landmines work well but you either need a bottlecap mine or a atleast five frag mines.

I mostly used Dart Gun then Combat Shotgun or Terrible Shotgun. Took them out no problems. And yes New Vegas Deathclaws are real Deathclaws.

Use a flamethrower, mines and grenades and any of your best guns that have stopping power up close.
Your best armour.
And save at every door.

Deathclaws are fast when they attack.

They practically teleport to you.

The only character that runs as fast or faster are Protectors in Bioshock games series.

I had to fight my way through the Old Olney Sewers with not enough weapons and too low armour cos I could not get back. It was not pretty. :(

Cripple their legs, not only slows them to a crawl but also prevents them from doing that nasty leaping attack. The Dart Gun makes deathclaws a cakewalk.

When I went through here I was level 30.

Had a plasma rifle and a buncha stims, but only ended up using, at most, a donzen stims.

I had all those increase criticals and chance to hit feats along with the refill AP with kill in VATS perk. So, my tactic was shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, VATS, shoot at head, then continue with next Deathclaw. Most I encountered at one time was 3 of em, but they were spaced out in 2 at a time and 1 running towards us, so I had time to take down 2 and deal with the coming one.

I did an experiment once in Olney sewers to test out the effectiveness of various (mainly Mothership Zeta) energy weapons. The rules were:

1. No clothing
2. One energy weapon
3. Crouched at all times (so no easy backpedalling)
4. No use of health items

The only EW that got me through consistently was the Metal Blaster. I did manage one trip through using the Destabilizer from MZ, but with the other weapons I tried I died every time. (I'm sure the Alien Blaster would do the trick too, but then that gun is kind of a 'get out of jail free' card).

Lol - I remember putting hundreds of rounds into those things because there was some bug MMM? where if their legs were crippled and they fell over, the script resurrected them to prevent the bug causing them to shoot hundreds of feet into the air.so I would see their health bar shoot up all the time. where was I shooting them? In the legs! ;)
