Roleplaying as Talos

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:05 pm

I was thinking that it would be awesome idea to play Oblivion as Tiber Septim, also known as Talos of the nine divines. The story could be that Talos got cast out of the Nine Divines and was sent to Nirn as a mortal to regain his god status. I was thinking about copying Uriel Septim's face and tweaking it a bit. For class I am going to make a custom class that uses heavy armor, blade, restoration, illusion, and either alteration or destruction. I am going to be using some mods to give him some powers. After all he is a god and he should at least have some power left. Anyway I think its a interesting idea, let me know if you have suggestions.

Pretty sure Tiber Septim would have speechcraft as a major skill, you don't forge a new empire with weapons alone.

Yeah he would but speech craft in oblivion becomes useless once you have a lot of money. People are not supposed to know he is Talos so, I was going to stay away from speech.

I was assuming you were coming from a purely role playing angle, sorry. In that case speechcraft and a +5 personality would be how I would do him, regardless of the usefulness, but of course it's your character, you do it however you want, that is the beauty of the Elder Scrolls.

And some scripted spells to replicate the thu'um he used in life.

I was going to make personality a main attribute. He is liked by all he speaks to but he prefers to keep to himself to avoid potentially exposing his identity.

http://images.uesp.net//1/1a/OB-Statues-Tiber_Septim.jpg is a good image to base his appearance off of. Might consider investing in a beard mod, or possibly just avoid it on the grounds that he shaved his beard in order to not be recognized.

Why did he lose his godhood? I don't know how much of a lore buff you are, but that's quite an unexpected event, given how he ascended in the first place.

Right...had never thought of that before...

*wanders off to plan*

But on topic:

I think it's a brilliant idea, but I would agree with Zen on the speechcraft thing. However, he is your character :)

He was stripped of his godhood because it was the only way he could return to Nirn. He needed to return to Nirn so he can stop Mehrunes Dagon and Umriel.

But has a divine you can down to Nirn at any time and any appearance you like

Try and look a little deeper in the older games and see how many times we have met a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Wulf:whisper:

If thats the case then why haven't any of the divines come down to help fight Mehrunes Dagon and Umriel the Unfeathered? Yes they did appear in other games in any form they chose, but in Oblivion only Akatosh appeared and Martin had to sacrifice himself for that to happen. Thus me saying when he came down he had to return as a regular mortal is viable.

Sounds like a good idea! If you are still looking for a back story, perhaps this:

The emperor and his heirs have died. The Gods have seen this. Due to there being no heirs to the throne and to the Amulet of Kings, our power is waning. I, Talos, have chosen to give up my powers as a God temporarily, so I can stop Dagon and Umaril. Becoming mortal means that the Eight shall regain some of their power. I am proud to be able to help the Eight in this troubled time.

(first attempt at a backstory. What do you think?)

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Monomyth
If you read the Monomyth, it states , in a roundabout way, that the Aedra hated the limitations placed on them when they became part of Mundus. I assume that taking a mortal form is even more limiting to them, being a state even further removed from their previous formless freedom in the Aurbis before the world was created.
Pure conjecture on my part, but it seems to me that as Talos had previously been a mortal, with no direct memory of limitless thought, he would be the most likely to manifest in the confines of mortal form.

Thats what I originally had in mine minus the part about the 8 becoming more powerful. I am either going use the Prophet as Tiber Septim's appearance because I think it is him or I am going to use Wulf from Morrowind since he is Tiber Septim.
