Consoles on 360

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:55 am

I would love if the console versions got some nice little cheat codes. It would really boost the replayability for the game. Who's to say the consoles gamers don't at least deserve that?

Well two worlds had a console, that game failed horribly.

But was that BECAUSE of the console or in spite of it?

You could have said it was a dev tool without being an... orfice about it.

Oh, and guess what modding can be classified as? Developing.

How would it boost roleplaying? Giving yourself gold is the only instance anyone could think of that wouldn't require so much tweaking it could be considered a mod in and of itself. Cheats, by definition, do not lend themselves to realism, and thus, do not lend themselves to roleplaying.

Playing Oblivion on the 360, the only times I ever wished for a console was to fix glitches and for organizational purposes. Any time my character got stuck I always wished I could use tcl to get out. If I ever wanted to remove a spell from my list, or drop a quest item, I found myself wanting the ability to use console commands. Same with quests that were buggy; once or twice I found I couldn't complete a quest due to a glitch, and in those cases I would have liked to use the console to try to work around the glitch.

There are definitely opportunities when the console is a useful tool, even if you aren't a modder or a "cheater." Though it should be noted that pretty much all of these opportunities could be negated by better design and testing. Get rid of glitches, improve the menu organization, and you make the console less necessary for the instances in which I most wanted/needed it.

Well since it's flame bait, I guess you'll have no problem with me hittin' that "report" button.

You could have said it was a dev tool without being an... orifice about it.

Sorry, I meant that LAST part was flame bait, not the original point. Minor oversight.

I only EVER play on PC...and opening console for cheats just never was a fun thing for me...I would rather just play the normal game.

Good sir, cheats add FUN to a game. What if I want to save the game and turn on a cheat that turns everyone in fighting psychopaths? Or cheats that unlock all locations, or a cheat that makes you run and jump incredibly fast and high. You act as if everyone plays to roleplay... lol. No, these are games. A bit of cheating fun is good for you. Imagine if San Andreas didn't have cheats... exactly.

Ouch, I must be a cheater and a bigoted guy with obsessions over my mods since I play both PC games and Console games and I don't use cheats on the console and could care less for them. Also, I only make mods for cosmetic reasons mostly or fixing bugs. Yep, you caught me.

Cheats are actually pretty boring. They are fun for like a few minutes and then they lose their novelty. There is only two cheats that I have ever found truly fun, that is in AOE 3 and that would be George Crushington and The Tominator. The other thing that wasn't really a cheat, it was an easter egg was the Scarab Gun in Halo 2.

Pretty sure it's a Microsoft/Sony thing. They don't want people cheating to get achievements/trophies. That's the only reason I can think of anyway.

Then remove achievements and trophies (sorry, don't know what that means though) and give them console instead. Not rocket science to open an input box and a virtual keyboard. Patching bugs aren't their strongest side, and loosing the most expensive house house in the game because some Orc doesn't know how to walk a bridge must be frustrating.

It's not a cheat console, it's a debugging tool. I would never do that...

Exactly I wasn't making a case for because or in spite of, just telling about you the one and only game to ever have a console on a console.

Good luck entering long strings of commands with a controller (probably more effort than that fetch quest you don't want to do)!

It's not even a part of the game mechanics. It's additional, so why would you be too tempted to use it? Do you feel tempted to use cheats in other games, unlockable modes, and look up walkthroughs? It's just like that.

it's different from looking up walkthroughs or installing mods or activating cheats
it's a press of a button, and a tempting button it is

I have no self control, I'm aware, which is why I play how I have stated
adding a console to the console would ruin it for me, so I gave my opinion, it shouldn't be in, leave it to the pc

that is all

A console on the 360 or PS3?

It might be ok but I don't see it happening. I do think they should add cheats or leave in a way to keep copying items pre and post patch. Not all people have as much time to put into a game to explore every dungeon and keep going back and forth to collect and sell the items in them, so I see a very good use for a cheat/glitch for money or copying items and many other cheats. Before people start saying they don't want cheats in their game it is an option. I also don't understand why game publishers that include cheats have turned off achievements and/or the option to save while using them because people are still putting in the time and money to buy the game and play through the quest, so why penalize them if they want to make the game easier to get past one part of the story or the whole d*** thing as long as it is for single player only. Achievements and as far as I know trophies are useless anyway the only thing they are is a way to brag and say I got so and so achievement in this or that game. Honestly if I don't get achievements I could care less take them away but to not let me save, now that is bull****, if someone needs to get past a particular part of a game but it is too hard so they use a health cheat then can't save and continue their game without cheating is ridiculous.

Well if you're not good enough to play games without cheating, either you shouldn't be playing the games or you should just turn the difficultly down. I think the reason they disable achievements is so people that like getting them and don't like cheating don't feel, well, cheated by everyone that has cheated. If you understand me.

Being a Bethesda game Skyrim by default will be loaded with tons of glitches allowing console users to cheese their way through the game, with at least a few never being fixed. Having the worst QA department in the business does allow a few undocumented features to sneak in.

That said having something that turns on "tcl" for XBox/PS3 users would be nice. Lost count at the number of times I've needed to use that command in Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas on PC. Console users are just screwed when they get stuck on the game environment and need to reload a save.

How is someone getting an achievement while cheating hurting you? They are for bragging rights only; if they unlocked game content for multiplayer I could see your point. Like I said I could care less about the turning off of achievements or not (even though your still putting in 50+hrs or more to finish the game like everyone else except with cheats) but if they would at least let you save your game (this is becoming a trend with any game with cheats) it would be nice. Also for you or anyone else I don't cheat at very many games but I do like to on occasion, depending on the game type, open world games being one of the genres I usually cheat at just mainly to get money quickly and easily. Also GTA type games to let off steam and just blast everybody without health or ammo limitations.

Or you can fast travel... under the right circumstances. :hubbahubba:

I agree that there should be a better way to fix that.

So, my question is, do you think Betheseda will proved its 360 and ps3 users with a cheat console?

Nope. Don't see this happening any more than mods on 360.

Would it really be so difficult?

Ask Microsoft, gamesas seems to continually claim it's something about their licensing agreement/requirements that stops it from happening.
