Potential FCOM error?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:29 pm

I did a full install of Oblivion, SI, and then the DLC content. I didn't know when I did that it would conflict with FCOM. So far all I've done is all the official content and the official patch. Do I need to undo something to get a proper FCOM install?

Erm. No. Instaling OB, SI, DLC is fine. Why do you think that?

No problem yet. I just read a page that said to do the Unofficial Patches before anything else. I used to think Morrowind mods were a chore to install. I've got a bit of stagefright in jumping in to install my Oblivion mods, lol. Fals alarm, I guess.

Nope, no problem. ;) You are fine if you install the Unofficial Patches now.

You should install the UOP before installing FCOM. The same is not applicable to the UOP supplemental. If you want to know more about installation order: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/installmods, http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/fcomguide/s3borganizefcom?pageUrlChanged=s3borganizefcom, or the http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/fcomguide/obmminstallfcom.

Thanks. Does anybody have a link to Francesco's mod that aren't .exe? If I've done my homework right I can't do a BAIN with an .exe. I'll take all the training wheels I can get with this level of complexity.

There isn't a non-EXE version, but you can find the conversion steps for Fran here: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/fcomguide/bainfcom.

Edit: Go to the "Last Step" if you need the links to the Fran downloads. You may also want to make sure you did not miss any other required downloads.

Edit: You did not start out reading that guide I presume, but I stress not "installing as you go." One of the reasons BAIN's prioritized installation is appealing is that there is a potential to install your entire modded-setup (excepting OBSE plugins) at one time. Plus, you should not have to do any reinstalling because you should make sure that the packages are in the correct order beforehand.

I hadn't read that page, no. I have found a small handful of different pages advertising to be a Oblivion mod newbie's first starting point. I've disqualified a few by careful reading. Currently I am going to use http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1079933-50-steps-to-ctd-almost-free-fcom-game/ for being the most complete. My goal has been to get all the mods in the Fourth Warning loaded into my Bash Installers directory before I fire up BAIN. I think I have the same Fran downloads from a variety of sites. I dl'ed whatever I could find while looking for a non-exe. I spent some time on the UESP page (here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:FCOM ) while trying to figure out which FCOM page would be best for me to figure out my install method.

The 50 steps guide is not the most complete for new users. My site is intended for new mod users. The FCOM Install guide does not start at the beginning: installing Oblivion, installing utilites, etc. but there are other pages, linked in the http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/fcomguide, that are suggested reading material to cover those topics. The TES4Mod page is not an installation guide. However, it give you a lot of (in)compatibility information that is worth reviewing. If you want to see what the FCOM installation routes look like, I the guide I linked goes through both routes. You could browse the two quickly to compare.

Thank you. I have been trying to pull a guide together that could really walk a newbie mod users through the entire setup of modded Oblivion. Blade of Mercy's guide is good for users who are comfortable installing mods. It does not teach users how to do that. It is a good recipe for a stable setup, however. I recommend referencing when you get to the organization and installation steps of my guide it if you are a newer mod user and intended to install an "expanded" FCOM load order. The reason why I linked the "Installing Mods" page is because, after reading it, you should understand why the recommended installation (and BAIN organization) order is what it is. The other reason not to jump into that guide is that most new FCOM users have enough trouble trying to get the basic FCOM install working correctly, and many will probably see the guide and decide to add many of the cool mods it links. That is fine, but more mods requires more care when doing the final configurations. If you are doing BAIN installation, you miss the conversion and organization steps, and if you do OBMM installation you need to know how to make OMODs and the like. My guide goes through all of those things, and it elaborates on the very important steps #49 and #50 of Blade of Mercy's guide.

Oh, I just found another good BAIN resource. I have added links to my site, but I think I want to start a new thread quickly to raise awareness. I want to right, USE BAIN, in big letters all of my site, but that would be too biased and not really useful. I was just really happy to see that more BAIN conversions of existing mods have been released. The big one is DarNified UI. A number of people have asked me about the conversion steps for that one, and now it is done. :D

I'm having trouble with part of your initial mod list. You list:

UOMPS MOBS <-- already simple package
UOP <-- already simple package
USIP <-- already simple package
USIP MOBS-17621.rar <-- already simple package
USIP MOBS FCOM-17621.rar <-- already simple package
UFCOM <-- already simple package

Now when I dl'ed I didnt' have the good fortune to have them all named the same as you say. This is what I have:

Unofficial_Oblivion_Patch_v3_2_0_Manual_Version-5296.7z
Unofficial_Official_Mods_Patch_v15_Manual_Version-9969.7z
UnofficialShiveringIslesPatchv140Manual.7z
UOP_Supplemental_v325-27710.7z
UOMP_1-5_MOBS-17621.rar
USIP_MOBS_FCOM_1-4-17621.rar

I think the UOP_Supplemental is a hotfix and not mentioned in your list. I am not sure I have your UFCOM. I am also not confident with your listing two USIP mods. Any help?

EDIT: Your page I cited is: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/fcomguide/bainfcom

Thank you. I added the supplemental hotfix. I do not know if you read the guide all the way through, but in the "required downloads" step, I mention both of those files. Users who want to install Fran's SI option needed the USIP_MOBS file, other FCOM users can use the "_FCOM" version. Some users, such as myself, download both because they may want to use the Fran SI option. I can emphasize that point if you think it is necessary.

I'm reading as I go. Just having information overload. I think I'm going to go back to the beginning and start with http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/baininstallguide . I should have caught the required downloads bit. I've been at this for hours, lol. I'll grab a soda and start fresh at the beginning so as not to ask any more stupid questions.

It is not a silly question, especially jumping into the middles. I do not think it was unreasonable to think that that might have been a required component, as only basic FCOM components are listed there. Once you have all of the downloads taken care of, going through that whole guide should only take a few hours. I cannot say anything if you are doing the OBMM track and installing QTP3 however, but most other setups should not take forever to get together. The longest part of BAIN setup is the initial organization of your 200+ packages. The process can be really long if you are converting from OBMM. In addition to Installing Mods, you can also use http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/lists/mybainlist as a reference for the sorting business. I have it linked in the appropriate step of the guide, but just so that you know it is there. It contains about 400 or 500 of my ~800 item BAIN package list. I have yet to comment it thoroughly because I need to upload a more correct version and it is simply a lot of package organization to go through. I spent two days organizing in the Installers Tab.
