you could try making a copy of the explore music and renaming it to what the battle music is named. Then, replace the real battle music with your renamed explore music.

You cannot disable the battle music, as I believe it is a hardcoded function of the game. The best you could do is what gothemasticator suggested and have it change to another exploration song or something.

Yes, it will. But I think that the game is hardcoded to switch music files upon transitions, like into battle or out of it. What you're asking is if the game can be told to just never initiate battle music at all. Hmmm...

There is an Oblivion mod that offers amazing customizability for music, but I don't think even that mod does what you ask.

Well, somebody smarter than me will probably happen upon this thread and say for certain whether it can be done or not.

There is a mod' for Morrowind that disables the battle music, and that game uses the same engine on this one, so it must be possible. I don't know how it was done, though.

In the meantime, you could try turning the in-game music off altogether and play the explore track on Windows Media Player.

http://www.mediafire.com/?gti32e2dy0m seems to do just what you wanted. It just redirects DefaultBattle [MUSC:0008957D] to look in the Explore folder, so the track doesn't skip a beat *if an Explore track is already playing.

*If the music type isn't explore, the music will switch to explore and back though when a battle starts/ends.There **might be an FOSE function to conditionally set and upkeep the subrecord data for that record so such odd music transitions wouldn't happen and battle music would be whatever is currently playing.

**Couldn't find anything of the sort. I'd keep digging, but I've bigger fish to fry
