Using DOSBox to play Daggerfall

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:05 pm

Alright, so I've downloaded the game, and DOSBox. I've mounted the game file/directory (I named it DOSGAMES, and stuck the daggerfall files inside) and then I used the "C:" to do whatever it does, the dip /p or something, to bring up the specs, but when I type in the name of the executive file "DAG213.EXE" it says illegal command?

Please don't send me links to guides cus I've been using them for the past 3 hours to try to do this :(

I'm a total idiot when it comes to using old video game tech so try to explain help as thoroughly and simply as possible.

If you could just post a picture of DOSBox with the correct commands and explain it that would help to.

Sandman - go to Google right now and search for 'D-Fend Reloaded'.This is a windows front end for DOSBox. Just download and install, run the utility and then click on options then DOSBox to tell D-Fend where you installed DOSBox (should be c:\programs\dosbox-0.73). Once you have done that, click on 'Profiles' then click on Add Profile with Wizard, then just answer the questions (it will get you to browse to the exe and the setup and then ask graphic and sound questions.) Once the profile is named and setup, right click on the profile and choose 'edit' then in the space where it currently says DAGGER.EXE click on browse and choose the DAG123.EXE instead. close the edit and either right click and choose 'Run' or double click on the profile name The patch should run and close. Then go back into edit profile and change the exe back to FALL.exe. in the little box underneath where it says 'Program Parameters' type z.cfg.. Exit edit and srt the game, it should start.

At that point, go to the various threads here for 'Veteran tips for beginner's' to learn all the tweaks to make the game better.

Pleased you got it working with Boxer. Hope my instructions helped,as most front ends are the same! Would have saved time if you had said you had a Mac from the get-go! :)
