Running Daggerfall using D-Fend....

Sorry this is probably a ubiquitous question, I tried using search but couldn't find any precise step-by-step.

I've installed Daggerfall & DOSBox 0.73... everything seems to be working fine except the game is horribly jerky, all the time. I've altered the DOSBox config file (as people elsewhere were suggesting) so that this now looks like this:

# This is the configurationfile for DOSBox 0.73.# Lines starting with a # are commentlines.# They are used to (briefly) document the effect of each option.[sdl]# fullscreen: Start dosbox directly in fullscreen.# fulldouble: Use double buffering in fullscreen.# fullresolution: What resolution to use for fullscreen: original or fixed size (e.g. 1024x768).# windowresolution: Scale the window to this size IF the output device supports hardware scaling.# output: What video system to use for output.# Possible values: surface, overlay, opengl, openglnb, ddraw.# autolock: Mouse will automatically lock, if you click on the screen.# sensitivity: Mouse sensitivity.# waitonerror: Wait before closing the console if dosbox has an error.# priority: Priority levels for dosbox. ... but that doesn't seem to make much difference, the game's still horribly unsmooth.

Anyway, I've installed D-Fend Reloaded but can't figure out how to set this up... I'm assuming I have to create a DSBox profile & then run DF by running this, but I'm getting in a complete mess trying to figure out how.

Could someone give me a totally Dummies explanation of how to do this please? :embarrass:

Firstly, at the bottom, change

dagger

Exit

To

Fall.exe

z.cfg

Exit

Then open z.cfg in notepad and change 'Control' to viewplyr.dat from what it is.

Now I recommend you go to C:\Program Files\D-Fend and right click on the exe uses 'Send shortcut to desktop'

Now double click on the desktop icon for D-Fend to start it.

Now go to 'Options' and DOSBox and tell D-Fend where to find the DOSBox you're using

Now go to 'Profile' and choose 'Add profile with Wizard'

Now answer the questions:

Name the profile Daggerfall. You want Fall.exe as the exe and z.cfg in Program Parameters. Choose setup.exe as the setup exe, choose DDRAW, start in fullscreen and keep correct aspect for graphics. Choose 32 for Memory and set CPU cycles to Max. Set drives as you have in the conf file. Sound is Soundblaster 16 and General Midi

Once completed, right clickon profile name and choose 'Setup'. D-Fend willstart DOSBox with your setting and start setup.exeto set the sound.

Once set either double clickon profile name or right click and choose 'Run'.

After that, if you want to tweak it, just play around with the profile, start the game, and if it's worse go backto what it was and if better keep it. With a front end this takes seconds.

Hope this helps

^ Thanks, that was extremely helpful.

Now, if only I could figure out how to swing a sword without simultaneously swinging my character round (giving the distinct feeling I'm about to fall over), I might start making some progress..... B)
