What movies will you watch...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:41 pm

Because of this thread, i hired Conan the Destroyer (couldn't find Conan the Barbarian) and i liked it. I will have to find the other one now. Reminded me of those old kung fu movies. I laughed when he turns around and face plants into the tall dudes armor. Also Beowulf and Grendal which i haven't seen yet tho i have seen Beowulf.

If you enjoyed Conan the Destroyer then you will probably really enjoy Conan the Barbarian. The Destroyer was really poor compared to the first one, and Grace Jones...agh!

A great little Movie from 1981 is the Walt Disney classic Dragonslayer. I still love this movie and still reckon it has one of the best Dragons i`ve ever seen on the Big Screen.
It`s well worth a watch and considering the dragon element of Skyrim, may well get you even more in the mood for some upcoming Dragon Hunting..

I remember that movie! Exploding dragons are the best.

I'll have to read through the whole thread after class, but it's seems like people have nailed the big ones. The Longships was a decent viking movie, they go to the Mid East, which vikings did do, kinda campy, but way better than this other 60's 70's movie where they went to America (The Northmen?)

I've yet to find the "perfect" viking movie. 13th Warrior is close, just misses on the costume design, but it's based on 1) a historical document and 2) Beowulf. I hope they re-make it in 20 years.

Valhalla Rising is great but on a whole nother level. Many people didn't like it, and I don't blame them. The 65 seconds of combat throughout the movie is some of the best I've seen, a blend of brutal realism and cinematic flair. I still need to check out Outlander, I hear good things. Pathfinder bothered me because the vikings looked too much like Chaos Warriors from Warhammer, but I'll give it a shot. If only because Karl Urban is a good dude.

Yeah I was quite surprised when I saw it was Walt Disney. It was kind of dark and grim for a Walt Disney movie!
When you got to see the advlt dragon..I was like "Whoah..that`s bad ass looking".

Quality film for it`s time .

I've heard Mel Gibson was wanting to direct a Viking movie with Leonardo Dicaprio. It won't be out before Skyrim of course.

Contestant:"Hollywood for $500, Alex".
Trebec: "Mel Gibson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Vikings".

Okay, okay. Mel Gibson is bat[censored] crazy. But I really like movies that he's directed, namely Apocalypto.

And okay, Leo is not the hulking strongman you might want for a viking hero. But he's a damn good actor, probably my favorite leading man in Hollywood (Blood Diamond, the Departed, Inception) As long as he's backed up by some by some bruisers, give him some long greasy hair, I totally see him as like a scheming viking chieftan, or the son of some warlord.

The hero would be American if Mel Gibson directs it... :teehee: (I mean the character, not the actor)

Honestly there doesn't exist a single great viking movie. My only hope is that Gibson gets to finish his.

I don't EVER troll and I very much enjoy the Zemeckis version of Beowulf. Give me a better version and I will watch that and get back to you on it's faithfullness to the original story.

'Beowulf and Grendel' stays closer to the text, but Zemeckis' 'Beowulf' is probably more watchable.

I'll totally watch this when it comes out, as it seems to channel the wildness of Skyrim. Apparently, it's based on the book The Eagle of the Ninth, and centers around a Roman and a Brit on a quest to find the gold eagle of the lost ninth legion. Eventually, they encounter the Seal People in Caledonia (modern day Scotland).

This thread is cool. I watched Outlander last day after reading about it here and I loved it. I've also read the problems around its production, it is a shame really, I didn't even know it existed. I've seen Pathfinder before but I can't even remember a thing(I've rated it 6/10) about it now but this one will leave pleasant memories. Thanks guys.

PS. I love creature movies.
