Is Bethesda open to the idea of remaking some of the earlier TES games?

I know every so often someone like me will come in and ask this very question, but i'm such a big fan of MW and OB that i'm really interested in exploring these earlier incarnations of TES, but i can't get past the dated graphics and such.

No offense, but if you can't use your imagination to fill in the blanks that "dated graphics and such" cause, you are not the target audience for these older games.

I will agree with you that visiting iconic locations like Direnni Tower would be awesome with updated graphics, but that's it. You may want to look into the http://daggerxl.wordpress.com project which, when done, will not only function as a source port for the game but also allow for texture replacers.

Most likely not, unfortunately. Since they've been released for free, you likely will never see a remade version made by Bethesda.

If it was it wouldn't give the originals away. The way gaming is going, the next ES game will be one city, about twice the size of the IC and will play like an action-adventure.

1. I hope not. Especially with Daggerfall. In my opinion, Oblivion is to Daggerfall what 2nd edition D&D was to 1st edition. Daggerfall set a certain tone for the Elder scrolls that I think got diluted with Oblivion. I DO like Oblivion but Daggerfall is more satisfying.

2. Oblivion is beautiful, no doubt. But there is more depth in Daggerfall. More options, and more importantly, more choices. This leads to a greater immersion in the game world. The learning curve is steep compared to Oblivion but the rewards are worth it.

Role playing gaming is pretty much all in the head anyway. Look at D&D - almost pure imagination with sparse graphics for inspiration. Get a good dungeon master and you've got a great game. Daggerfall is a good dungeon master compared to Oblivion.

If you really like role playing give Daggerfall a shot. Do some research about character creation and how to run the game as bug free as possible. The tag line "Prepare to experience your new obsession" still applies.

Thanks to those who replied.

Just to clear things up, i'm not a gamer who's into the latest graphics, but i find that when i go back to the old DOS games, even those i loved when they came out, i can't get past the graphics.

P.S Some of the repliers to this post seem to have made the assumption that i wanted a new Oblivion from Daggerfall, OB with all its graphics improvements felt like half the game MW was.

From all the interviews I've seen/read, it seems that basically every new Elder Scrolls game is a remake of sorts. Sure they have a different main storyline and location. But otherwise, with every game they start from scratch and redo/rethink everything, while keeping the same ideas and goals in mind. So you've already got your Bethesda-made Daggerfall remake. It just happens to be Oblivion. Sorry. :P
