Why no female characters?

Post » Sun May 08, 2011 10:23 am

Hi

First off really looking forward to this game and hope I get as mush enjoyment out of it as I did in ET:QW.

But as my wife and I were watching some videos and trailers we were wondering why no female characters in the customization?

My wife played a fair bit of QW with me and think she was a bit disappointed with this. For a game the one of the main features is customization why not have them?

If someone could give a me a answer it would be much appreciated.

Thanks :D

This topic is so overdone it's not even funny, please, before posting next time, use the search bar.

I will tell you basicly why females have not been added.

The developers had a choice, to either cut most of the customozation options from the game to add females, or keep the large amount of customaztion they had, they did not do females because they wanted to do them properly, not just quickly make them and throw em in the game, they did not have enough time and resources to put females into brink, but they promised they will focus on adding females in the sequel.

It's because if they created women in the game, they would have to lessen customization to support both men and women. Splash Damage stated that they'd rather have greater customization for 1 gender, then half and half with 2. Also they would probably have to delay the game a bit more for female characters. But believe me they really did want female characters.

But to answer your immediate question the devs felt that putting women in as a character would reduce the amount of customization that people could make on their characters due to space. So they felt that it was worth dropping female builds for more options. Please don't make a big deal of this, there are a lot of discussions about this and its been talked to death.

They did? And is there going to be a sequal at all? There's a lot of stuff that I am confused about here.

They said in a interveiw or something that they are going to try and bring woman into the game in a sequel if they can, IF they make a sequel, they are going to focus on brining the girls in because they were disapointed that they could not do it in brink.

Yea i heard about them wanting to put women in but ended up not being able to also. So if they do make a sequel they would almost be obligated to make women characters just because of all the anger this topic seems to have fueled.

i don't feel comfortable harming women even in video games. i prefer not to have female models tbh. there is just no appeal in having female characters in MP for me either playing with or against me.

The problem with people who are disappointed with BRINK for its lack of women is because they immediately see the game as a failed project for leaving out one of the things that SD really wanted to implement.

One little feature (and the lack thereof) isn't going to ruin an entire game. You need to see things from the developer's view. Making games isn't a bunnies-and-kittens job, and one of its major problems is that there's so much you can put onto a disc until we have better forms of media.

@Mattatuide: Don't take any of the more blunt comments here to heart. No one here is really happy with the decision either, but it doesn't help when some members who bring this topic up are very blunt and critical of SD and are unwilling to actually understand how the developer feels about having to cut this feature.

Female characters would be cool, but they are far from necessary. It would take too many resources to make female characters and their animations when they could be more spent adding to complexity. Plus, do you want to see a heavy female character running around? I don't, so they don't really work.

Because half the female characters shoes were clashing with the guns so they won't come out and fight the other half have headaches.
