The letter to Morgiah from the King of Worms

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:16 am

I have read that when you get out Sourg Barrow with a letter from the King of Worms to Morgiah, it disappears if you fast travel back to Wayrest. Do I really have to actually ride all the way back to Wayrest in order to keep the letter in my inventory?

Somebody please show me an alternate way.

Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of that bug. Can you post a link to where you read it?

What I would suggest is just to do the quest normally, making sure you save before you start.

"A crucially plot-critical bug would cause the letter from the King of Worms to princess Morgiah of Wayrest to disappear if the player fast travelled from the Dragontail Mountains to Wayrest. This could be circumvented by travelling the full distance in real-time, a journey that would take several hours, depending on whether or not the player had acquired a horse." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_II:_Daggerfall#Bugs)

This seems to be happening to my game.

Do you have the .213 patch installed? Have you tried fixsave?

I've heard of this bug but it was fixed in the patches so it didn't occur when I was playing lately. Anyway, I am almost certain that you can't travel from one place to another without fast-travel. It is as impossible as it was in Arena. (Maybe I am lying, but I am almost certain)

You're incorrect. But it does take a whole lot of real time to travel that way. Unless you turn on the speed cheat..but even then..

Face the direction of your destination. Press "forward". Hold down for 10 hours.

Anyway, I've done that quest quite a few times, I fast travelled every time and never encountered that bug.

I believe that I installed the .213 patch. I am unfamiliar with "fixsave". Could you elaborate, please? Thank you in advance.

Fixsave is a small utility program that comes with the patch download. To run it, go to your Dagger directory, wherever it is located on your computer. Simply launch the program, choose the save you want to repair, and it will search for any glitches that it knows about. The same download also contains a readme .doc that explains more.

Never had the problem, and I've played with both the unpatched and patched versions.

I'd say you're good to go!

I've never even heard of this bug before. Of course, you could just Recall back to Morgiah instead of fast or slow travel ;)
Either way, I've fast traveled right back to Morgiah and not had any problems.

Didn't get the bug fixed, so I just svcked it up.

I found that fast travelling to anywhere in the Wayrest province caused the letter to disappear, thereby breaking the storyline.

However, fast travelling to a non-Wayrest province, such as Satakaal, did NOT cause the letter to disappear.

Therefore, I fast travelled to the nearest spot to Wayrest that was not actually IN wayrest, some little spot on an islands off the coast of Wayrest and rode my horse across the sea until I got back into town.

Still, it took several hours to get it done properly.

Thanks for the input, my friends.

I really can't imagine that you can in fact travel without fast-travel. I thought the wilderness was infinite like Arena and there are no streets anyway!

Not in Daggerfall, you can actually travel between towns on foot/on a horse. Easiest place to try it is by going straight south of the city of Daggerfall itself, and in 5 minutes you'll get to the next little town place.

[EDIT] It might actually be better to start at the settlement south of Daggerfall (was it Copperfield Manor or something like that? Can't remember) and walk due north to Daggerfall city. The reason being that the town south of Daggerfall is very small, if you walk south from Daggerfall you might miss it and walk right past, but if you go north from the little town it would be much harder to accidentally miss Daggerfall.

Just a thought:
Did you try travelling somewhere else first, and then going to Wayrest? I have never encountered this bug, so I wouldn't know if it helps.
