Quick Question (House/Companion)

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 8:23 am

There are probably a lot of threads about this, but my reasoning is a little different. I have been away from Morrowind for a year or two. I have just now installed my game, and gotten all the standard mods that I play with.

So my two questions:

1. House Mod: In the last two years, has any super good (beyond belief large) house mods been released? 2 years ago the best mod out there was Ravenloft. I am probably going to be re-using that again since at the time it was the best house out there. However, that was two years ago. Has any other really popular houses been released since then? I am looking for something that is really really large, with a lot of space....basically the more features the better. Is there anything in the last 2 years that is larger than Ravenloft or with more features, or is Ravenloft still the dominating house mod?

2. Companions...back 2 years ago I used two companions...Constance, and the guy who complains a lot. I forgot his name, but I liked both of those. I want this one play through at least to be a little more...streamlined. So basically I am wondering if any new really good companion mods have been released in the last two years, or if any of them have been severely updated? If I don't find ANYTHING better, then I will just default back to Constance, or Emma's wolf. I just wanted to see if there were any new mods that were really good...

Thanks again. These are the last two types of mods I am hunting for before I start jumping into the game again. Thanks again.

One last question, Oblivion has a mod that does Dark Horse addition (newsletters). Is there anything similar to Morrowind..one that perhaps adds it into the game or something..this was just a minor trivial question because one of th efirst mods I am thinking about creating one for this
purpose. However, if there is already a good one out there for Morrowind, then I probably won't waste my time.

Thanks again for all the feedback. This was written in a rush so please forgive any spelling/grammar issues.

I don't know what you have in mind for a house mod, but you can use Yacoby's http://search.yacoby.net/ to see if you find what you're looking for. :user:

1 - You can try Danae's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1078554-beta-pegasus-house/page__view__findpost__p__15702026 mod but note that this mod is only a beta
2 - Is http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1158136-relz-julan-ashlander-companion-no14/ you're referring to

For companions, I released http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/964289-jasmine-a-morrowind-companion/ awhile back. She has as much dialog as Julan, but is set in a different vein.

Hmmm, not bad. Quick question..in theory..I could download a slew of companions (Julian, Constance, Jasmine, the wolf, and 3-4 others) and mix/match them as a feel like it? As long as I don't uninstall one of them, their info will
be saved. So I could switch in/out companions as I saw the need. Does this sound correct?

Another question, it's been a LONG time since I have played morrowind. Do I need to do anything to merge objects/leveled lists anymore. I have downloaded a whole slew of mods...I just want to make sure. I have a lot of major mods and just to make sure
I am going about this the right way.

Better heads, better bodies, better clothes, more better clothes, real blood, children of morrowind, better beasts, bitter coast sounds, fires of frostmouth (or whatever), tamriel rebuilt, sable dragon, never halls, white loken, forgotten halls and a whole slew of others....
just curious if I need to run something to merge leveled lists, or merge objects.

Wow, that house mod is going to be great. I was there when Danae first started on that Trading Card Game. I had the pleasure of being one of the first to experience that mod, and it ended up turning out wonderfully. I am glad to see a new house mod...because of the care and
dedication of that modder, I am pretty sure it's going to be amazing. Thanks again for the link.

Yep. But remember that Julan is tied to the main quest and there will be times that you cannot progress that unless you do his quests. Jasmine just has dialog about the MQ and her own quests, but those can be ignored if you don't feel like doing them.

Hmm, I will keep that in mind. I am thinking right now of sticking with 3. I want some really good romance mod, so I think I am downloading Jasmine, Constance, and Laura Craft for the romance..I think.
I am still researching if there are other romance mods.

Aside from Julan, as far as I know you can have as many companions as you like and just leave them somewhere you'll remember. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Videos.Detail&id=153 is my favorite house mod, especially when used in conjunction with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=3236&comment_page=2 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7502&comment_page=2. The only absolutely *MUST HAVE* mod in my list is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8153. Especially if you have a lot of companions and they all have different summoning systems. The teleport mod allows for as many marks and as many companions as you like. It does require MWSE, but it works just fine with the latest MGE with the internal MWSE.

I couldn't deal with companions without Melian's mod.

I have always been a little scared of the MWSE. It's one of the only utilities I have not tried...that and the graphics extender. Not because I don't want to try them, but because I don't know much about them. I am afraid that when i start getting heavy into modding (in the coming months I hope to release some very large mods), I will end up accidentally writing ones that require the MWSE because I can't tell what was originally in the editor, and what was added by MWSE.

I have thought about the teleport mod...but I have my fears in doing that. I was going to download the house mod..but it is not entirely done yet. So I may hold off until it's finished. Right now the post said it had no questions, and no characters, so not sure what all is in it. Just saw what
was in that one thread. Mostly I don't want to spoil myself. If Danae is working on it, I know it'll be a great mod. I want to wait before I get spoiled on the design of the house until ALL of the quests and everything else is built in. I will check out that companion you pointed out in a few minutes.

Oh, I forgot. You can never fast travel with Companions can you? You can't use those scrolls to go to the temples and other area, and you can't use mark/recall either when you have a companion, or they will be left behind..is this correct?
if that is the case, then I might download what you mentioned just to see how it goes. I just don't see myself being able to open this external program every time I open morrowind..since I normally open Morrowind through the launcher, I am going to end up forgetting about 90% of the
time. Maybe there is a way to configure it to open with Morrowind or something?

Actually doesn't look that bad. I have 2 questions if you have time.

1. Is there any way to configure MWSE to run with Morrowind? Meaning, I click on Launcher, click on Play and then it automatically starts the MWSE or something. What is the best way to handle this, or do you just
have to get use to re-opening the MWSE every single time?

2. Naturally...how do Companions respond in game? Meaning if you have to Mark/Recall, or use one of the scrolls that teleport you to a Temple or a Cult place, do your companions teleport with you. I am referring to base functionality without
that teleporting mod. I am just wondering if they will generally go with you when you do that? Is that possible in the base game, or does that happen anyway. It has been such a long time since I have played, that I was just curious, I do not
remember if they generally teleport with you in the main game.

MGE (the non-XE versions only) has the option to enable internal MWSE. This allows you to use MWSE without running it simultaneously with Morrowind.

Companions do not follow you when you teleport using a spell or from a script. They will be transported with you when you use fast travel though (silt strider, boat, guild guide).

OK, thanks I appreciate that. Where can I find the non XE version? I found the main page for the Morrowind Graphics Extender, but it didn't say anything about whether it was the Non EX version or not.

Also, is it safe to run them both together? I mean is it going to cause me any problems. I also have the Morrowind Code Patch, patched over my EXE file. If I run the graphics extender and MWSE at the same time (Not sure how
that works) is it going to slow my game down a lot. I have never used either one of these applications before.

Edit: One more thing...which makes me a little worried about using it..I read some in the comments that the Graphics Extender version 3.8 is incompatible with a great deal of mods, that I would be better off using an older version.
Do you know anything about that? I want to maintain the utmost amount of Mod compliance..that is another reason I am a little worried about using the Script extender. Can you give me some feedback regarding Mod compatibility
with the Graphics Extender, and the Script Extender (newest versions)?

Edit Part Two: Sorry for doing multiple posts earlier. I am use to Forums that do not allow you to edit. So I will start editing my posts instead of posting 3-4 times in a row.

This version of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159516-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/ has MWSE built in, so you don't have to worry about running a separate executable. As for making mods, you can only create and compile MWSE script with MWEdit, so there's no way you can accidentally make an MWSE mod with the CS only.

Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the information. If I wan to do any mods with the extended scripts, I will keep MWEdit in mind.

The last question I have (after which I should be good for awhile), is what is the compatibility like with the version you linked. I know the newest
version has a lot of incompatible mods (which I see is mentioned in this thread). So out of curiosity, is the linked version compatible with pretty much
all standard Morrowind mods?

Edit: I notice that even with this version there are a lot of incompatibilities...according to the docs, they state that this thing can be a monster to get working right.

So assuming I go ahead and stick with just the Morrowind Scripting utility...does it have the same compatibility issues and difficulties as the graphics utility?
Can I pretty much using the scripting utility without having to worry about it breaking any mods?

Edit 2: Also, the version you linked me seems to be the same version. So then it would still have those same compatibility issues. Might be worth it to just start up the scripting
extender every time.

Edit: I figured out what I am going to do. I don't want to take the chance (at least not with my current level of experience with it) of messing with the graphics extender. For now, I am just
going to download the Script Extender, and install that recommended mod. I will get use to triggering the script extender every time, it can't be that hard to remember. I will just the icon above it
on my desktop.

Thanks again for all the feedback and support in this thread. Thanks again.

Believe it or not, it was a non-issue. The extender is actually very nice. It has a launcher. So I basically removed my official Morrowind Launcher from the desktop, and replaced it with the script extender. All it does is add one extra step. It opens the window, and you select launch Morrowind and then the standard launcher takes over. Very easy to use, and didn't seem to cause any issues with my game.

Overall, thanks for all the feedback and help on this forum. Going to help my gameplay out a lot, thanks again.

one of my favorite companion mod's wasn't listed http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1080 but it requires MWSE. I'll also say i have never had issues with MWSE.

Oh wow, I love necromancers. Thanks for the link. Your right, it wasn't listed. Not only that, I had never seen it anywhere before. I had scoured Google for a day looking for newer companion mods (or any I had not seen before) and I hadn't seen this one anywhere.

Thanks for the link, would never have found that one. Going to install now.

Oh nice. I might give this a try too. I will download that as well. It looks like it's in a good location also, so I don't think there will be any conflicts. Thanks again.

Return to III - Morrowind
