About Battlespire...(Spoilers! Look at your own risk!)

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:10 am

I have some questions about that game. Some Questions are Spoilers to the game, but answer them anyway please.

1. Is it true it's more linear than other ES Games?

2. Is Mehrunes Dagon really the last boss? (If yes, then how is he in Oblivion, or did Battlespire come second, In-Game Universe Timeline wise?)

3. How does it's Multiplayer work? 2 Players on one computer, or 2 Players over the net?

4. Do you still make your own character?

I haven't played Battlespire, but I've read about it for the lore. So I'll do my best to answer your questions...

1. Is it true it's more linear than other ES Games?

It has a mission linearity. You complete one level, then go onto the next. There are no shops to buy or sell, so you have to drop anything you don't want.

2. Is Mehrunes Dagon really the last boss? (If yes, then how is he in Oblivion, or did Battlespire come second, In-Game Universe Timeline wise?)

Mehrunes Dagon is the final boss, but he's not killed. Daedric Princes cannot be killed, only banished back to their own Realms.

3. How does it's Multiplayer work? 2 Players on one computer, or 2 Players over the net?

There is Multiplayer, and the UESP Wiki has info on how to do it http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Battlespire:Multiplayer.

4. Do you still make your own character?

Yes, there is a character creation process, but I'm not sure how detailed it is. I know that you can pick your race and face, and am thinking it is similar to Arena/Daggerfall with the point system.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PphLarzrO6M&feature=related's a YouTube video showing the intro video, character creation, and some gameplay as well. It's about 10 minutes long.

[edit]:Haha, it might help to post the URL to the actual video. :P

If you have anymore questions about Battlespire, feel free to ask. I'm pretty much the last remaining 'expert' on the game.

Actually, I do have more questions.

1. Can you get the Daedric Crescent and use it as a weapon? (I noticed it on the front cover)

2. Do you have to do something special to defeat Mehrunes Dagon, or do you just fight him as you would any other enemy?

3. Are there multiple endings? (I know this is unlikely, but I just thought I'd just ask anyway)

4. What Level should you be when you face Dagon?

5. What exactly is a Battlespire?

1. Can you get the Daedric Crescent and use it as a weapon? (I noticed it on the front cover)
---Yup

2. Do you have to do something special to defeat Mehrunes Dagon, or do you just fight him as you would any other enemy?
---Yup. You need the Armour of the Saviours Hide, and a special sword, called The Moon Reaver, IIRC

3. Are there multiple endings? (I know this is unlikely, but I just thought I'd just ask anyway)
---You can either play as a male or a female. The final cutscene is ever so slightly different depending on which you play. But the story is the same either way.

4. What Level should you be when you face Dagon?
--There are no character levels.

5. What exactly is a Battlespire?
--The training ground for Imperial Battlemages.

No levels? Then how do you get stronger?

As you finish a level, you're giving statistic points when you can spend on skills and statistics. :) You need to do so before you can travel to the next level.

Since there is a topic open about this game already I would like to inquire as to how I'm supposed to install this in Vista. I've tried the tutorial, but since it obviously is streamlined for XP (before the release of Vista) it doesn't take into account the changes that Vista brought. And no, downgrading (yes, that's right downgrading) to XP is an option, so unless you know how to get it to run you don't need to respond. But any advice as to have to it is welcome.
I run Daggerfall and the CD version of Arena just perfectly in Vista using Dosbox though.

What happens when you try to go through the instructions that are posted in the sticky?

I just followed the sticky and everything worked right away. What exactly is it that doesn't work?

The game is unstable and won't run properly (glitchy, lag etc.).

Have you attempted to give the program admin rights? I can't really help out with it on Vista since I can neither afford, nor have any want of Vista.

I have exhausted most of the standard Vista possibilities as admin rights and such, but nothing changes. Daggerfall and Arena runs fine, with both sound and everything, but getting Battlespire to run is almost impossible, and Redguard is even worse...

As stated in the sticky it needs a really good CPU to run properly. What are you running it on?

AMD 3800 64 X2. I can run Crysis with most settings turned up, and Oblivion pretty much maxed, so I doubt that it is the problem. It might be that it works better with a different build of dosbox  (vanilla 0.72 build).

What do you mean by unstable/glitchy?

Does it give any sort of error messages?

Are you sure that your CD image is in .ISO or .CUE format?

Is it Battlespire or DOSBox that crashes? I.E. Does Dosbox remain open after the crash?

Please tell me you have it patched to 1.5. Pleaasse. And 3800+, try running it at the 'low' setting and turning the 'screen size' down. Emulating 16bit DOS takes A LOT of power. Don't be surprised if you don't get 30fps.
