Much longer loading times after sorting the loading order

Post » Sun May 15, 2011 4:14 am

No idea wether this is the correct place - it's not an "issue" per se, and more related to mods' loading order anyway.

So, after adding 10-20 mods and deleting/merging some others, I decided to use Mlox to sort the mods - after fixing some compatibility problems I loaded Morrowind and, much to my surprise, the initial loading took FAR longer than it used to before re-sorting the plugins with mlox.

This is the current load order:

My first thought is: if it still works then don't worry about it ;)
You do have a lot of mods here, so a long load time is no surprise. As to why it got longer, well that could just be how your game and/or computer is acting today.
My laptop and PC both play Morrowind slower/faster on different days, based on matters I cannot reason.

Also,
esp GameFile206=The Sable Dragon 1.5.esp

Has been updated to http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7817. It's basically just dialog fixes, so if you're already playing it then don't worry.
:)

Considering the number of mods, I'd say the resorting actually made it so that some things that weren't being loaded before (due to conflicts) are now loading properly. If everything is working and you aren't getting error messages, consider yourself lucky. :D That's a massive list of mods.

That's what I thought as well, and I suppose it's the right answer. Oh well, I'll either cut down the list a bit or keep the initial long loading time.

Just wondering: is it normal that not *every* plugin has its name appearing on the initial loading screen?

By the way, thanks (to both of you).

I'd say it's perfectly normal. A lot of mods are so small that they load faster than the screen can show. The ones you do see are the large ones that take a few seconds to load. :)

I see vGreetings is listed in your loadout. I think this is completely superseded by the MCP. You don't need the Hold it! Resource and Replacer

If the way these are listed is your load order, you might have bigger problems than slowness. You've got all the GCD stuff loading in an order I'd be surprised works. I see several other things where the load order might not behave like you think.

As far as I can see, you're loading in alphabetical order...try using mlox as a load order setting tool.

You mean the MCP 1.9 includes the new greetings?

EDIT: I just took a look, but didn't find any option which mentioned new greetings or anything similar... am I missing/overlooking something?

My bad, its the Patch Project (MPP) that includes the vGreetings....from PES:

If you already use Morrowind Patch Project v1.6.4 you don't need this mod.

ok, you mention you used mlox...its unlikely mlox would sort you alphabetically. So something isn't feeling right about your load order as listed above.

Regarding load order, I just noticed that, somehow, Morrowind.ini reports the alphabetical load order while the one used by Mlox (and, at the same time, the one which appears both in Wyre Mash and Morrowind Launcher) is totally different.

No idea why the one in the ini is alphatebical - the game follows the mlox/wyre mash one anyway.

The .ini will always list like that. You can right click on the list pane in mlox to cut and paste your true load order.

That's not correct. The readme of version 1.6.5 states that "[a]ll of the bugfix content from the VGreetings series has been addressed by the Morrowind Patch Project. None of the extra features are included, and upon testing, the Morrowind Path Project and VGreetings are very compatible."

That means you'd still have to run Voice Greetings if you want the additional greetings and not just the bug fixes.
