Need some help, PC newb :p

Ok, so I've had Fallout 3 on xbox before, and have spend 100's of hours hoarding piles of crap for my house and doing all the DLC's and the whole story over and over.

So now I want to move to PC, modding stuff appeals to me, and messing around with console commands is fun too. I've modded PC games before, so no issue there.

Thing is, I got a new laptop (Packard Bell EasyNote TM if thats any use) it has a 4GB ram and AMD Arthlon II X2 Processor P340 and want to know if the game will run as well on my laptop as it does as the Xbox version, and will the graphics be as good?Another thing, my new laptop has some stupid setting where if your pressing the keys on the keyboard the mouse is incapable of moving, now obviously this makes gaming impossible, anyone know how to fix it?

And if I'm going to buy it, is it better to get the GFWL version or Steam version? Is there any difference in ability to mod, console commands etc? And will a wired 360 controller work with both?

Thanks, if you guys could answer these it would be really helpfull!

From doing a quick search, I found that your laptop most likely has an ATI Radeon HD 5650 graphics card with a 17" screen @ 1600x900 pixels. But you can confirm this by going through Control Panel > Personalisation > Display Settings.

It will run Fallout 3 no problems, on say, low-medium graphics settings because of the extra work needed to run smoothly at that higher than average resolution (for laptops).

There's no real difference between GFWL or Steam versions. The controller will definately work for GFWL, same for Steam as far as I know, but I haven't tested it myself.

Hope this helps.

Thanks man.

Is low-medium graphics good? Fallout 3 graphics and textures are pretty bad to begin with, wouldnt running it on medium look... terrible?

And I cant find the stats on my computer, stupid Windows 7 wont let me use classic layout on control panel.

Found it http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7154/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayo.png what settings can I run?

Ah, Windows 7. Sorry, I gave you instructions for Vista. It's Control Panel Appearance and Personalisation > Display Settings > Advanced Settings > Adapter.

You'd probably get away with medium if you tickered with the settings, and I don't think it would look bad at all, especially at that resolution. :)

Edit: Forgot to ask, do you still get the same cursor/keyboard problem when using an actual mouse instead of the touchpad?

Touchpad, and its a damn pain, I cant play any games at all for obvious reasons.

Packard Bell is one of the few brands I haven't had experience with, but it sounds very strange. You should plug in a usb mouse and see what happens. To be honest, I don't know how anyone could use a touchpad to play something like Fallout 3 but each to their own.

I see what you mean, I suppose I have got a USB mouse, I'll have to try it.
