Problem Installing Daggerfall

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:44 am

After it says Preparing To Install, it tells me I don't have enough Disk Space, even though I do. How can I fix this? Also, could someone tell me again why it's not a good idea to use the XP Installer with it?

Are you following http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=479044&st=0&p=6877868&#entry6877868 instructions? Dosbox is the easiest and best way to install and play daggerfall. I haven't tried the xp installer myself but from what I've heard it's not possible to play it that way.

Yes. I did follow those instructions, but it didn't work.

When you run the install program, add the /u switch:
install.exe /u
That will make it skip the diskspace check.

I have another problem now. It's telling me to copy *.vid c:, but when I do that, DOSBox freezes. Anyway around this?

another way is to

mount c c:\ -t freesize 2000

that command tells dosbox to mount that C: drive with 2000Mb of free space. You can change the 2000 to whatever value you want.

Sounds like you've got things going on ...

make sure your PC is okay (defrag and no extra programs running and all that usual stuff), but if you can do a dir command under DosBox and see the vid files, it should be okay. I had trouble marking them not read only, but if you can do a dir, maybe you can move them one at a time (there's only about a dozen).

Or, just use the regular explorer and copy them over. I'm not sure, but I don't think it matters if this step is done from inside Dosbox or outside of it.

good luck!

If you are just copying files, then it does NOT matter whether you do it through dosbox, or through windows. I find it easier to do through Windows, but either method is fine.

Might have to restart dosbos or remount if you do fileoperation in windows while having dosbox active, since I don't think it will see the changes otherwise.
