in_c_door_arched

I am using many, MANY, texture replacers. Using Richer Textures as my base, I've installed a little of Connary, a pinch of Vurt, a dash of skydye, and a smattering of Mr. Swiveller. Probably several others as well, but you get the gist. The crazy thing is than *none* of these wonderful replacers has touched that one door. in_c_door_arched is just as ugly as it was right out of the box. Pale, blurry, and grey-ish, it mocks me. Strangely, the handle and keyhole appear to be somewhat higher quality than the rest of the door, but I just don't see how that is possible, unless the door actually has more than one texture applied to it and the handle and keyhole were replaced.

Does anyone know of a replacer for that dang door? I'm generally ecstatic with the rest of Morrowind and my FPS is good, but I'd be happy to try out a new replacer if it just fixed that one door!

Thanks! I'll have to give that one a try. It has a little "overhaul-ish" feel to it all by itself, but I'll have to see how it looks with the rest of the package and with what I have installed, before I make any judgment at all. I am reticent to change things too much, which is why I start every install with Richer Textures, but usually, by the time I decide to reinstall again, my Morrowind does look like it has been overhauled completely.

I wonder what else my search will unearth?

Locks/keyholds do have a separate texture from the rest of the door. There are keyholes for different architectural styles, such as Temple, or Hlaalu. I would be surprised if one retex pack had a new texture for a lock and it was applied to a vanilla-textured door's lock mesh.

That mesh uses tx_imp_archdoor, which is in my Imperial and Common Homes texture packs.

Do make sure you get the pack(s) from PES, the ones on ElricM are older versions.

Thank you to all.

papill6n, I went ahead and d/l that one. I wasn't as startled by the difference as I thought I'd be; probably because it just affects Imperial towns and not everything.

Alaisiagae, that explains a lot, actually, like how keyholes can be upside-down when the door isn't.

Helena, I might try that one next month, but it's just so huge (66.7MB) to get one door; we pay for bandwidth usage over 5GB a month. In addition, I'm leery of large packs because I have yet to find a single mod author who fully captures the "feel" of all of Morrowind, for me. As I have my personal preferences, they have theirs also and they tend to be better with what they love than that which they are lukewarm about.

Mr. Swiveller, thank you for your wonderful work. After looking at all of your screenshots, I'm pretty sure my computer isn't going to be able to handle such high-res textures. Is there such a thing as "too good"? I like to keep my FPS around 30 in towns and right now I'm around 25 in Imperial towns, so I'm good. If I ever get a desktop gaming machine again, I'll definitely go for yours . . . or if I ever decide to drop COM and Starfire's NPCs . . . my poor, poor laptop.

Thanks again, everyone!

You're welcome Elaura.

The wall textures are 1024x1024, which is fairly typical nowadays. Your computer shouldn't suffer too much. :-)
