Graphic Enhancer

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:42 am

In your opinion what is currently the best graphics overhaul mod (textures/meshes). I am looking for something that does not require the graphics extender. Something that
just replaces most/all of the meshes in the game with ones that look a lot better than the original.
In your opinion what is the best one.

There's http://knotstheinane.blogspot.com/p/morrowind-modding-guide.html - you don't need to install the Graphics Extender, the list is pretty thorough and you'll have a pretty game even without MGE stuff.

There's also the Morrowind - Sounds & Graphics overhaul which gives you a lot of nice choices with an installer - the thread should be on page 1 or 2 of this board iirc.

The only mods that require MGE are Animated Grass. You can use any textures/meshes you want and MGE is not needed. (where has the rumour started anyways?)

There is no "best" since it all comes down to personal taste. I usually use Connary as a base replacer for textures, then add some of my favourites over that.

Povuholo's ToMorrowind has a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1155980-povuholos-tomorrowind-a-mod-recommendations-list-for-today/page__p__16924204#entry16924204
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1103737-add-to-the-list-of-needed-graphics-mods/page__p__16150079__fromsearch__1&#entry16150079 covers a lot of options.
The wiki has a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:World_Replacers of world textures.
And there's always the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.List&category_select_id=13 section on PES.

There are very few mesh replacers, but http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7459 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7984 are great. There is also Better Clothes and More Better Clothes, and CanadianIce's Robe Replacer, for your clothing updates.
Vurt has made many different replacers for the various types of trees, all are on PES.

Ok thanks. One more question.
What is your personal opinion on this: http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Morrowind_Visual_Pack_Combined;56241
Have any of you ever used it, can you give it a personal recommendation?

It's great, and very popular. Look at it's rating http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2915 ;)

I actually used the Visual Pack Combined (as a base, then added other texture replacers) before the release of the first part of Morrowind Overhaul - I liked it alot.

The biggest problem with that pack (the only problem, maybe) is that it's tapestries are seriously awful. So just make sure to install a tapestry replacer over it.

I just now saw that. Sorry, I meant to say Morrowind. I just now changed it back. I was in a hurry when I typed that...
Now that the other link was introduced I am at a stand still.

In my left hand I am holding the mod that I just tried (that I linked) and in my right hand I am now holding a thought of trying to find/use Morrowind Overhaul...so now I am having indecision.

So many super powered mods, so little time.

Can you link that version of Overhaul that you were mentioning? I found this: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8987 Is this what you were referring too?
I just want to make sure I have the one that you were speaking about. You said that you use to use the one I linked, but that you changed your mind when you saw the newer one. I want
to see where this new one is that you were referring too.

Edit: I am going to guess that this is it? http://www.fileplanet.com/198261/190000/fileinfo/Elder-Scrolls-III:-Morrowind---Graphic-Overhaul-Mods-Part-1 You said "Part 1" so do you not use Part 2? I am downloading them both and
I guess I am going to give them a quick try. Any feedback regarding whether these conflict with anything, or whether they cause any conflicts with other mods? Or any other types of issues. Just curious. Also, is this the right one, and is it highly recommended.

OK ignore that last post. Apparently the entire thing I just downloaded is in french.

OK, so I did some research..I think I am going about it the wrong way. According to what your saying here, and what I am reading I should approach the graphics a little differently. I need to look for one "Base" replacer...and then switch out what I want from that point, but use one large
one as a base point. I have a few questions to help me understand all of this if someone has time.

1. I don't fully understand difference between Mesh/Texture. I know most are texture replaces...should I look for a giant base replace for textures AND meshes, or just one or the other. What is the difference?

2. Is my mod development going to get screwed up by one of these replacers. For example...when I get ready to build a mod, will these types of replacers (textures/meshes) cause anything to change.I mean do these thouroughly move around everything..like adding new trees and a lot
of other stuff, or do they straight up just over write graphic files?

Thanks again for all of the feedback. Just trying to get this setup right.

Edit: Question 2 didn't come out right. My main concern is i am going to hunt down and use a texture/mesh and/or both replacer. Then maybe a few replacers for those replacers.

That is cool. What I am concerned about is...I am planning on creating a lot of mods later, hopefully quite a few large ones as well..I already have some experience from the past..just trying to get
caught back up. So basically I am wondering if these texture/mesh replacers...I mean I will be seeing one thing on my game when I load up one of my mods, and something totally different on someone else's mod. How
do these really large mods take all of this stuff into account (moreover, how do the really popular modders take this into account when they are creating their own mods).

If something has a .esp, it moves things around. If it doesn't, it's a straight up graphics replacer, which means that the game will simply load the new thing in place of the thing it had before. Shouldn't mess anything up in terms of mod development.

A mesh is the 3D geometry of an object, a texture is the 'picture' that goes over the geometry to make it look like it has a surface.

Ah ok, thanks. That explains things a little better. I knew what a texture was, and had an idea what a mesh was from the sims..since it requires a new mesh to change the shape. I just was having an annoying time of putting the logic together.

Thanks again.
