Custom vs Premade

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:10 am

When I first started playing, I would pick the Knight class all the time cause I thought Knights were cool. When I made my first custom class was a thief/mage mix which is the same class I use today
Sneak
Marksmen
Light Armor
Destruction
Illusion
Alchemy
Alteration
And as I gained money and levels I train up Blade and Conjuration.
So yeah, I prefer Custom made classes by far, because you can create any class you'd want
And apparently I'm not alone

Custom. I'm rarely completely satisfied with the premade classes.

I think my second character was custom, and haven't played a stock class since.

Always custom. The preset classes are never the way I want them.

Daggerfall-always custom

Morrowind-sometimes custom, sometimes pre-made

Oblivion-sometimes custom, sometimes pre-made

No offense at all, but what pros you can have by using a premade?...

A lot of the time the premade classes are pretty good IMHO

+ at least in Oblivion's case, descriptions(can't remember if Morrowind custom classes allowed one to write their own description or not)

I always use a custom class, but I find the pre-made classes to be helpful sources of ideas. I'd be more likely, I think, to use pre-made classes if TES used an experience-based leveling system.

I almost always play a stock class just because I like to play on the game's own terms, it ups the immersion.

Never made a custom class. I love the weaknesses and strengths of the premade classes. I refuse to make a character with a mix of the most useful skills and then name it a 'Battlemage'. I remember asking in a forum once about how to make a good warrior custom class and one of the responses went like this " well, youll want to have security or alteration as a skill. Also, you should only have one weapon skill for you character. Definitely put destruction in your major skills as well". Would that be a warrior , or a hodgepodge of the most beneficial skill character? Youre going to make a crusader?, how about putting security, illusion, sneak and mysticism as some of your major skills?

After playing the games for so long, I prefer the pre-made classes. As they aren't over optomized and make your character feel much more like a part of the world rather than the hero.

Being that I only play as premade classes im hoping the skills for most classes are better implemented in the next installment. The nightblade class in oblivion just didnt make any sense, as well as a scout not having marksman as a major skill.
