TES4Edit help

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:09 am

I'm trying to clean my ESP with TES4Edit using this http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/TES4Edit/Mod_cleaning_tutorial_with_TES4Edit, but when I go to save the changes I get this message:

Count not rename "C:\Program Files\data\myMod.esp" to "C:\Program Files\data\myMod.esp.backup.2010_04_19_14_17_03".

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance.

(I'm using Windows 7 if that matters.)

Sounds like you have OBMM, Wrye Bash or the Construction set open at the same time. If any other program which can edit ESPs is open, they'll lock access to the file, preventing other programs from editing the ESP.

Are you sure that doesn't say "Could not rename"?

Anyway, since you mention being on Windows 7, where did you install the game to? If you installed it to Program Files, then you're running into a permissions issue. The easiest way to solve that is to reinstall the game to somewhere NOT in Program Files.

No, believe it or not it did read, "count not rename".

I finally got the file to save. I had to run TES4Edit in XP compatibility and as administrator. I think it cleaned (I think). Left a nice little terrain rip between the cells I was trying to manage, but that's easy to fix.

You do make a good point with installation. I know I'm going to have to eventually do this.

Thanks, but nothing else was running.

Anyways, looks like I have a bit of work ahead of me before starting this "modding Oblivion".

:whisper: I'm a PC, and Windows 7 was not my idea...

You can use TES4Edit with Wrye Bash open. You cannot make edits to a plugin loaded in multiple instances of TES4Edit or with the TESCS open, however. I do no think OBMM could have a say in that action. It is blissfully ignorant of most of the things you do outside the scope of its window until you want to do something useful with it post the changes...lots of fond memories there...
