What you want in skyrim from other games

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:05 am

From Morrowind, I would like to see the return of the badass-looking-and-sounding Dunmer. (IMO, anyway) Also, I hope that Imperial Legion Armour (if any) would return to the more Roman-ish look. More in-depth culture would also be nice.

From Oblivion, I'm hoping Skyrim builds upon the awesome (IMO) vistas and atmosphere. Sunset at Anvil and sitting by a warm, welcoming fire in a tavern are some of my favourite non-combat moments in Oblivion.

I downloaded Daggerfall a few months ago after finding out I could download it for free. I committed a crime, and was arrested. And I was like,...What the heck...I'm in court...this is like the best idea for a crime-punishment system eva'! In daggerfall, you stood before a judge, and you could plead guilty or not guilty. If you plead guilty, and you were found guilty, you were given a lighter sentence. But if you plead not guilty and you were found guilty, you were given a harsher sentence (longer prison time). I think a system like this should be implemented into Skyrim. You could go quite deep with this. Personality and speechcraft could play a role in whether you are able to fake your innocence. Also, fame/infamy could also be important.

And since we're on the topic of fame/infamy, I definitely think this should return from Oblivion, but don't make it only a general fame/infamy scale. Make it also contingent for one city or region. You could have BOTH a general fame/infamy scale, and a regional fame/infamy scale. Allow me to define these terms now as I see them.

General fame/infamy scale - One quest/crime done in one region becomes known to the whole province of Skyrim. I would say that this be the case for the main quest and for MAJOR side quests.

Regional fame/infamy scale - One quest/crime done in one region becomes known to ONLY that particular region. I would say that this be the case for the more MINOR side quests.

You could go still deeper if you wanted. You could have a city fame/infamy scale, which are quests/crimes done in a city, but are pretty much unknown to the rest of the region.

Another thing I would like the return of are the werewolves of Bloodmoon. The werewolves were really cool looking. I enjoyed murdering npcs like in werewolf horror films such as Bad Moon and American Werewolf in London. Just think of how much cooler werewolves would look in Skyrim with all the much enhanced graphics. Only thing to complete it would be blood/gore, and torn limbs.

Dark Messiah-Combat.

this.

And being a fantasy RPG, i don't want it to be all happy. I want some Amnesia like terror. Like, [censored]ting my pants in a dungeon sometimes.

I want the legion to be joinable (along with inconveniences of wearing their armor near commanding officers and patrol tasks) not just to do quests.

I want the class system, because without it, I may just use whatever works for me at the moment and my character will be a mix of everything.

I want unique item placement same as it was in morrowind.

Medium armor

Religious factions

Better stealable stuff

six cards from the Witcher

This is exactly what Oblivion was missing.

If they included it I guarantee I'd still be playing Oblivion. GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!

I agree. I liked the legion armor in morrowind, especially the templar armor, with bracers, plumed helmet, etc. I don't want imperials to start to become generic human medieval folk, but keep the influence of classical rome era.

It's not something I want to see an exact copy of, but I was playing Crysis the other day and thinking it would be nice if some spells worked a little like the suit powers. That is, you can turn it on or off whenever you want, and it drains magicka based on what is going on, which may or may not include some fixed drain over time.

A strength or fire-strike spell would drain magicka when you attack with a weapon; a jump spell would drain magicka for each jump; a slowfall spell would drain magicka while you're falling; some defensive spells would trigger and drain magicka each time you get hit with the appropriate attack. Levitation, if it's in, could drain a magicka relative to the amount of thrust being exerted by the spell at any given time (more to move up than to maintain altitude or drift down, more to accelerate/decelerate forward or to the side)

Would be especially useful for balancing chameleon; it would slowly drain magicka over time while you stand still, but would drain faster when you're walking, faster still when you run, and attacks would drain a great deal.

Needless to say, constant effect enchantments would also have to have charges just like anything else for them work under such a paradigm.

I agree with you Perilisk. Maximum Smarter Magick. Duration will be switched with drain rate, I think?

PS. I have this in my suggestions but I have never drew a connection to Crysis. Suit power charge acts like mana, how funny. It offers free scaling too.

Nothing should EVER be taken from other games.

Make the game that you want. If you happen to have similar features as another game, whoop-te-flippin-do. Not a big deal.

Molding a game after features that other games have that are successful is not how you make a good game.

I loved the different temple quest lines in Daggerfall, different quests, different training offered. The chapels in OB were too similar. Even if it was a simple choice of following the Nine or the Nordic pantheon, this would give some variety.

The detailed, artistically sublime world of Morrowind with it's rich lore and the unique atmosphere.

A main antagonist as awesome as Irenicus, main quest and companions as good as in BG2. (sorry, but the DA characters were bland and shallow in comparison)

The morally ambiguous choices of Fallout 1&2.

It's obviously an impossibility, but one can always dream.

A unique sense of culture.

This. And a sense of having to survive in a strange land that is harsh.

Second that. They don't need to copy any other games. Just let follow the same spirit of Morrowind.

Unique game that is "high fantasy" wrought to be unlike anything I can see when just walking out on to the street in the country or visiting a forest.

One or two dungeons the size of the Daromith Mines in Nehrim: At Fate's Edge. That took me about two days to get through and it was great. Really felt like the Mines of Moria from LOTR, which is a good thing.
