Splash screens from Morrowind Overhaul

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 11:51 pm

Okay, so the Morrowind Graphics&Sounds Overhaul comes with splash screens, apparently. I do not want these splash screens; they don't match my other ones and they have weird blurry edges. I also can't get RID of these splash screens. I've deleted them from my Splash folder. They still appear. What the heck is going on and how do I make it stop?

Hmmm....does the overhaul come with a BSA archive? They may be contained in there, though I do not know if they can do that

well, i tryed right now to delete them and everything went fine, just make sure to replace them with the vanilla ones ;) be careful that they have (for unknown reasons to me :look: ) strange names, i mean, they have the same name as the vanilla ones... maybe it's required, i never bothered playing around with splashes ;)

edit: uh, nope, no BSA in MGSO exept from flora glow ;)

I don't use the vanilla ones to begin with; I replaced them all with a widescreen splash pack. There's still .tga files in my Splash folder but none of them are MGSO splash screens.

Lol this is impossible, empty the Splash folder once again and copy your splashes there.

I KNOW it's impossible. It's happening anyway. I have already done what you said.

There always IS a specific and particular reason for every impossible event. If it's still happening then you're certainly.. doing something wrong :teehee:

Maybe you have more than one Morrowind installations for some purpose and deleting splashes in wrong copy of MW?
Or you've created "Splash" folder in the wrong subfolder (correct path is \Morrowind\Data Files\Splash\) or even created more than one of them in different subfolders, dunno.
Or you have some mysterious BSA with those splashes in it..
Oh, one more possible thing! Maybe you should check your backed up pre-"Morrowind Overhaul" splashes more thoroughly, you could've overwrote them with Overhauled somehow, since they have the same names.

Good luck!

I discovered that yes, the original splashes had indeed been overwritten by Overhaul splashes, which meant I had to go through the annoying task of finding my (now-overwritten) widescreen splash pack and reinstalling it. The thought never even occurred to me until yesterday - the Overhaul doesn't say it replaces any splash screens, and where splash screens are concerned I don't expect surprise overrides given the addition-friendly behavior of splash screens. It is fixed now, but really it was a nasty surprise. IMO future editions of the Overhaul should have replacing the splash screens be an option rather than an automatic thing - choose between Replace With New, Add New, and Do Nothing.

Two possibilities:

Delete them completely from your Recycle Bin.

Or

You're running a Vista/Seven setup, and Morrowind was installed in the folder which prevents overwriting of any kind, even when 'Run as Administrator' is selected.

If neither of these, dunno....

Nah man, I fixed it - I found the splash screens hidden behind file names I didn't expect them to have and overwrote them with the screens that used to have those file names. I just wish the Overhaul hadn't overwritten them in the first place, or at least that it had told me it was going to do so.

Splashes were a try and I forgot them in the release, it wasn't planned to keep them in.
Surely they will be removed in a future version of the pack.
