"It made you sort of invisible."

Well, this is very reassuring. That's all I got to say about that.

It's on the http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9780345508010&view=excerpt. I found it through the Infernal City article on UESP, though. I figured everyone had read it- I wasn't about to go through 55 pages to see. :P

But seriously, that Slowfall scene is win. :D
And the thing with the werecroc.

I like how it doesn't take itself too seriously, which is probably my biggest turn-off with fantasy novels: would you believe I've never finished Lord of the Rings, and only got through one chapter of Dune?

That's a good point. I noticed that in the first two books of Keyes' series "The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone"; although the plot was serious, his writing flows well.

I absolutely loved that little excerpt and the way it portrayed everything.

Better yet, I like how it portrayed the future. The empire fell apart, but such a grand alliance does not fall for long. The empire is reforming, but Black Marsh got left behind like it has always been. It's the living fossil in an alien land.

Also, I smirked at the slowfall potion bit. I swear, the number of times I've died because of my damned low level alchemy and jumping off of cliffs with slowfall on me is almost criminal.

Yes, Keyes seems to have hit the ground running. The portrayal of Black Marsh and the remnants of the Imperials there makes sense.

(Btw, sorry that I didn't post this in the new thread that Lycanthropic Nerevar created. There will probably be a lock soon on this thread, since it's reached 204.)
