Civil war. How about the sides take those who surrender as slaves?
Nords who surrender?

If there are slavers they will lie in pools of their own blood, clinically and efficiently butchered, same as Fallout.

^This comment is why slavery will NOT be in TES 5. Back in the Morrowind days, TES had little more than a cult fanbase. Since then, it has grown to become a premier game series enjoyed by millions. And that's fine, but by expanding to a larger audience, Bethesda must give up on certain "campy" aspects of the series. They need to dumb down the game for the masses, so to speak.

If slavery was brought back for TES 5, it would be a scandal in the media. Despite the fact that everyone who knows anything about the series knows about slavery in TES 3. It's a sad, sad comment on society to think that slavery in a FICTIONAL game universe would be taken personally by real people, but that's the idiotic world we live in.

Slavery was in FO3 just a couple of years ago.

People who eliminate all slavers in the game are not a reason for eliminating the concept of slavery from a game. It's just another roleplay element.

Caesar's Legion in New Vegas just released few months ago are slavers, and don't mince words in speaking of what they use them for (as in: making more legionaries). I don't remember hearing of any scandal.

I sure hope not. But it's a major possibility, with the Civil War going on, prisoners will probably be made into slaves.

I hate when people take slavery as something racist... The option would make for some interesting choices in the game. Maybe you have a farm and need people on it to work. Fight bandits, make them surrender, force them to work on your farms for profit, and hope they don't kill you in your sleep. There's not much that evil about it, depending on what you believe in. So I hope it's in... Besides, it's a game!!! :banghead:

FO3 and NV both had elements of slavery. Hell, in FO3 there was a quest which allowed you to lure a six year old girl into being kidnapped and sold into slavery. Personally I consider murder to be a worse crime, but that will almost certainly be included as a central pillar of the game.

I don't think slavery will be in - not because of people clutching their pearls over it (something which I think is largely imagined in this case, considering I heard no uproar about it being in FO3 or FONV), but just because it doesn't seem to fit.

I think due to its proximity to morrowind, the fact that vikings took slaves and that its a topic you can fill with emotion I wold think they could slip it in neer the border or something. saying that it wouldn't be surprising if they left it out.

Well, slavery is a handy tool for drama and storytelling, I'd be surprised if we say none of it really.

If I remember correctly, one of the topics the NPCs said to each other in Oblivion was the abolition of slavery in Morrowind. So maybe Skyrim followed suit in the following 200 years. I am pretty confident, though, that there will be some of these evil, evil landowners who keep slaves for fun.

I doubt slavery will be in. Morrowind was the only area in the Empire that had slavery, and it had been abolished (not that it really matters given the fact Morrowind is completely destroyed). Slavery wasn't in Oblivion for the fact that slavery was illegal in Cyrodiil. Slavery has mainly been a Merish thing, despite there being cases of humans using slaves A lot can change in 200 years, but I don't think the status of slavery will change. I however wouldn't rule out the possibility of illegal slavery.

I also don't think you can look at the fact that Vikings had slaves as evidence as the proof there might be slavery in Skyrim. The Imperials are based off the Romans, yet the the Empire is anti-slavery, and the Romans had a ridiculous amount of slaves.

I could be wrong though.

It takes a lot of infostructure to support something like slavery. Doesnt seem like Skyrim has that.

Two people doesn't really make for much of an infrastructure.

The Nords didn't keep slaves at the time of MW/OB, only the Dunmer, and that was abolished by King Helseth. Unless somebody restarted the practice, or it's retained in small outlying areas and kept secret, it's gone.

As for abuse, that's only "necessary" when there's hope of escape or rebellion. Most slaves who were born into it, or were enslaved as childeren, never had any hope, and rarely needed to be "reminded" of their pitiable status. Several armed slave rebellions, such as the Spartacus revolt in Rome, occurred because the slaves got their hands on weapons and suddenly figured that they had a chance.....

No. Considering the civil war is about whether or not Skyrim should abandon the Empire and the Empire outlawed slavery, it's not going to happen. It's also 200 years later, so I'd hope the Empire putting its foot down about slavery would have some lasting effect on society even if the Empire itself doesn't have the power it used to.

With a dead ruler and many of these "nations" claiming sovereignty it's not exactly an Empire anymore is it. Slave trade continues in the real world and even in secrecy in the U.S. to this day not just restricted to africans. Who can say the same for Morrowind or other nations.

And it being 200 years with the empire -crumbling- is the point. A crumbling empire can't be fixed in an instant or at times even salvageable. Slavery is most likely very spread other than nations(Or territories...I'm making a judgement based off info from the wiki I've read and several good comments on the forums. I've never played a TES game. Just an old Black Isle and Fallout fan.)

It'd be up to these now sovereign, or if not seceded, falling nations to either enforce or allow slavery. It'll be interesting in Skyrim as their in the brink of a civil war. Will there be slaves used as troops? So many probable outcomes. But yeah.

That.

Slavery was part of Morrowind Lore - it subsidized the economy and seeing as the Empire were acting as foreign invaders and effectively now controlling Dunmer resources it was a concession to allow slavery to remain to prop up the economy - House Dres maintained the largest base of slaves both due to their proximity to Black marsh but also because they owned the saltrice plantations - a significant food crop for the Dunmer and the growing population in Vvardenfell

I enjoyed the NPC's who were secretly against slavery it made a good humanoid rights issue

Perhaps the issue of rights could of been played out more in Oblivion with Necromancy - if the necromancers had not been alienated could they have helped battle against Oblivion?

In any case the storyline of slavery resided in Morrowind but not in Skyrim - hopefully the devs have another dark storyline that makes us think what if...

Because the dunmer have lost their homeland and I'm sure many have immigrated to Skyrim because of its proximity to their homeland, I think some slavery will be in the game, though it will be very small, as the nords don't traditionally keep slaves. If there is slavery it will be a very small and isolated issue, not like morrowind where it was everywhere.
